Question related to ATI Radeon HD 6990 cards

Does anyone here think that 2xRadeon 6990 cards is overkill in one machine? I'm curious to know.

Hey old friend,
If you want bragging rights, and you got the cash to knock together a box that can handle it then do it.
Otherwise, nah 1 is fine enough for any game ATM.

Hey you, LTNT. Yeah..., my computer, the one i currently use for gaming, my graphics card struggles with some of the new games when the settings are maxed.

It's about that time for a new computer (on my time frame) and rather than waiting for Ivy Bridge, I'll have one constructed now, and about the time for a new one, on my standard life of computing, will be when Haswell comes out, which is "supposed" to be an awesome processor.

I've alotted a budget of $5400 for this new PC, so we'll see what I can come up with.

with a 990x no, with a core 2 duo... yes.

No specs is pointless...

It depends how many monitors you are driving. Wanna elaborate?

pretty far overkill unless you want to drive 3 monitors in eyefinity maybe...also radeon 7000s are not far away...

Unless you're spending $5k every year you're better off to spend less money more often. $1250-2500 every year will go way further on average than $5k every 2-4 years.

$1000+ a year is a pretty high budget, my 'toys' are my biggest indulgence and I spent maybe half that leap-frogging GPU and other upgrades. I'm not hurting for cash but unless you are multimillions rich why not retire earlier lol?

yes that is the reason why I asked, because the Radeon 7000 cards should be coming out around March of 2012? At least that is what one of my friends told me. If that is the case and they will be coming out in March then I will just wait, and just get one Radeon 6990 card. And when the 7000 series cards come out, I can just purchase the latest, highest end card of that series.
