I suppose. Never really cared for him. I do think that's a little much but what do I know. That woman that killed that biker because she was painting her nails only got 18 months. He'd have been better off killing someone I guess.

Both he and Ryan killed people - Ryan by selling phony CDL licenses and Blago by holding up legislation and by failing to pay human services organizations that had to cut services because the state owed them huge amounts of dough. Worst governor in my lifetime, crimes aside, and for a lifelong Democrat, and given the guys who have been governor of IL, that's saying something!

I suppose you could look at it that way. Who knows what the judge considered. And didn't ryan only get 6 years?

He got 8. I think the judge saw Blago as a really bad defendant who blatantly lied on the stand, acted like a reality star before and during the trial, only showed contrition at the very last moment, and did stuff - like trying to shake down Children's Memorial Hospital - that was just so beyond the pale.

Ryan deserved what he got but only found out what his employees at the Sec, of State's office had been doing after he was Governor. All the other crooks - the Daley family in particular - are way too smart to talk that way on the phone, Blago was just so out there and almost proud of the way he acted. I think that affected the sentence - they could have given him 20. The law has pretty heavy sentencing guidelines. If he had been more circumspect after his indictment, had apologized earlier, showed some contrition at some point earlier than right before sentencing he probably would have gotten off with 8 or 10. It's on his ass - all he had to do was chill and not be a moron.
