| reply to Storm97 I've got a spec sheet that shows some of the Samsung models that are or will be compliant... What I am trying to gauge is what the demand is going to be (as well as look at my own setup a bit harder).
RVU "launched" today and we have a couple work orders for HR-34's with RVU equipped TV's but I am curious to know if they will actually be completely setup and ready, given the requirements that the system needs... i.e., broadband already installed, software downloaded on TV already, etc...
For my setup, I am looking at streamlining and this may be the way to go. I've got two HD DVR's on my 60" LG and I plan on axing those for the 34 (One is only currently used as a slave, so I can record 4 things at once on one TV) but if I upgrade my bedroom TV to an RVU, I can ax 3 of my existing HD DVR's...
Just pondering... -- Words of advice for today... "Be Happy, Drink Coffee, Drive Safe!" |

DarkLogixPremium join:2008-10-23 Baytown, TX kudos:3 1 edit | the following is based on info from DBStalk its billed as just another DVR so you pay your $6 reciver fee if its an extra one
as for RVU billing thats an unknown but you might git billed $6 per RVU up to 3
if Directv does end up charging to allow RVU's then why would you remove DVR's just be able to record 9 shows |

| reply to Storm97 The answer I got was that if you were to install the HR-34 with say 3 RVU's, you would NOT pay an additional fee monthly for those TV's since they are fed off that single receiver.
There may be extra charges at the initial install, since we have to put a DECA BB at each RVU TV for it to connect to the HR-34. -- Words of advice for today... "Be Happy, Drink Coffee, Drive Safe!" |

DarkLogixPremium join:2008-10-23 Baytown, TX kudos:3 | also from what I've read they want RVU clients on the ethernet side of the HR34 and MRV on the deca (as the ethernet is still active when it uses deca and vice versa)
though info at this point is likely jumbled till its more deployed |

The RVU clients will NOT see any playlists other than the HR-34, but any HD DVR in the mix will see each other as well as the 34... So, MRV will work properly, AND the RVU clients will be able to manipulate Live TV (as if there was a DVR there)... They will just not see the rest of the Whole Home Network since the Whole Home is dependent on SWiM channels, whereas the RVU is based on IP -- Words of advice for today... | i am just reactivating my directv service, and was hoping to get the hr34 HMC, but i dont have the rvu capable tv's. my question is, can i use the hd receivers on those rooms to connect to the HMC? if i am reactivating, i prefer to go with the latest receiver, but not if i have to buy all new tv's. i would hope the hd receivers could act as the rvu. i am getting conflicting reports from directv reps so any help would be appreciated. |

DarkLogixPremium join:2008-10-23 Baytown, TX kudos:3 | reply to katnsteve afaik there aren't any RVU clients out yet
but you can still use MRV with other D* recivers
MRV is D*'s thing for viewing recordings on any TV RVU's are suppost to be a non-vendor dependant standard but they aren't really out yet
the upside to a reciver over a RVU is that a reciver can watch live TV without using up one of the 5 tuners of the HR34
the upside of an RVU is no $6 monthly fee (well that might or might not be right but time will tell as to how they'll bill) |

 | reply to gigahurtz thanks for quick responses all. great help. Now if i can get a knowledgeable sales person to sell me the HMC with the receivers it would be a nice surprise. thanks again |

| The only drawback to using an HD receiver at a TV is that you can't manipulate Live TV like you would on a DVR... Granted, over the MRV it WILL access the HMC and share the playlist of any other HD DVR's in the mix, but...
This is where RVU will have the advantage... Even though you are using up one of the tuners on the HMC, you CAN manipulate Live TV from one of the RVU client TV's. -- Words of advice for today... "Be Happy, Drink Coffee, Drive Safe!" |
