 | [Anime] Winter 2011/2012 Preview guide up Points of interest for me thus far....
HD SEED - duh.
Kyousogiga looks promising, as does High School DxD. Black Rock Shooter should be good as well, I liked the OAV.
Amagami SS+ will hopefully be better than the majority of the first season. Mouretsu Pitates looks good too.
A couple of interesting bits, Toradora! gets a new episode in the BD release - looking forward to seeing it get subbed by someone here. Also Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko will have an episode 13 on it's vol 7 release. I liked that series, so seeing a bonus episode would be nice. Here's hoping! |

| Amagami SS+: Not a huge fan of the show, but I seen the first season so I'll continue watching the second.
Ano Natsu de Matteru: It's a comedy, I'll give it a chance going in with no expectations.
Another: Sounds a little dark, which I like. This sounds like it'll be a good offshoot from the normal moe.
Gokujyo--.: Silly? Risque? Pervert behaviours? Well it has my attention. The art isn't the usual, so that also caught my attention. This can either be a big bust, or an absolute gem.
High School DxD: Sounds a little like Angel Beats, though sounds more like a comedy instead of a touching story. Seems like this will be entertaining.
Nisemonogatari: Bakemonogatari. That's all I need to say. Going to be the best anime of the season.
Zero no Tsukaima F: Going to be the last season. This anime is pretty good, even if it lacks a lot in certain areas. Looking forward to seeing this finale.

Another Aquarion, I kind of liked the first for all it's campy goodness.
Berserk I hope is good but I'm afraid of it sucking.

 | reply to captokita Thought it worthy to note The Hidan no Aria OAV and Toradora! OAV were released, and while I haven't watched the Aria one, the Toradora! one was great!
There is also the 2nd Seitokai Yakuindomo OAV has come out. I would LOVE to see another series for this! It's just hilarious.
Watched the preview for Another, and it looks like a nice, dark story. |

Listen To Me Girls I'm Your Father - Biggest disappointment here I thought "Awesome another Usagi Drop" but NO its full of stupid pedophile delight. Seriously there is a boob crush shot for a 10 year and a pantie shot for the 10 year old and the main character blushes.
Then you have the 14 year old who has a crush on him and the main character walks in on her in the bath room. Fan service has ruined like 3 of the shows I was looking forward to watching when I read about them. WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU JAPAN! -- That was the wild boar.... Moo! | Nothing wrong with fanservice when used properly, like in Highschool DxD. I have no interest in Listen To Me Girls, so can't comment on that (though it sounds bad), fan service in general is awesome. |
|
 | reply to captokita So many shows are on my watch list this season, which is good, but can be complicated when trying to remember when each is released / streamed.
Amagami SS Plus: Nice start. Apparently, this is each previous character's "After story" where you get to see what happened afterward. The first involving Tsukasa Ayatsuji and the class presidency. Overall I enjoyed it, and look forward to seeing more. I had expected this to be new girls, but I like the "after story" idea.
Another: Nice dark tone through the first 2 episodes so far. I'm tempted to start reading the manga, but I don't think I want to ruin it. I read ahead (finished) Mirai Nikki last season, which was a good one btw. Anyway, this one is worth following if you like this sort of thing. The music, animation, it's all laid out in a dark, secretive, tone, which adds to its depth.
Daily Lives of Highschool Boys: This one at first strikes me as another "You and Me" from last season. In a way, I suppose it is, but it's broken up into small segments like "Highschool Boys and skirts" and such, and deals with the lives of 4 friends, and things highschool boys might deal with. I don't know about you, but I never tried on my sister's skirt, I'm just sayin. It's got some good humor, but given the choice, I'd pick another season of You and Me over this.
Highschool D*D: Fanservice. Nuff said. If you like bouncy boobs that bounce on their own for no reason but to bounce, then this is for you. Panty shots? Got that covered too. Nudity? Plenty, with the bouncing as well. Story? Do you need a story? Actually, it COULD be a good story, but it's obvious what they're going for here. Horny teenage boy done in by demon, brought back to life by well-endowed demon, yadda, yadda, yadda.
Kill Me Baby!: Comedy. You will either like it, or hate it. I thought it was funny, but I could also not watch it, and feel I haven't missed anything. I don't care for the way it's drawn, but I'll watch it anyway. I like the ninja and her silly jutsus.
Brave 10: Samurai! I think I've seen this scenario before, lone wolf Saizo runs into priestess Isanami who is being chased. Reluctantly rescues, and now is tied to her. It has action, so I'm for it. One of the "Gotta get the team together" things. Still, it's got action.
Aquarion EVOL Haven't seen the original, but if you like mecha, then, this should fit the bill! Plenty of action, plenty of robots, and even some story thrown in.
Bodacious Space Pirates: As much as the title could mislead you, it's not a fanservicey romp. In fact, the first 2 episodes are rather slow-paced and plot developing. Marika Kato is a highschool student, member of the (space) yacht club, and apparently, the daughter of a space pirate. Dad is dead from food poisoning (riiiight) and so the reigns fall to her. Will she do it? Well, considering the opening / ending credits, I think she does, so why they've spent 2 episodes without seeing the pirate ship, kinda leaves me wondering. (The ship looks like the Outlaw Star in the credits) If this series is only 13 episodes, 2 are gone, which means the end will likely be rushed. It's good, don't get me wrong, but damn, I was expecting more by the end of the 2nd episode. Maybe they're banking on another season?
Continuing: Bleach, Fairy Tail, Hunter X Hunter, Sket Dance, Beelzebub. |

| Ano Natsu de Matter: The story here seems pretty good, reminds me of "movie" stories like The Girl Who Leapt Through Time or Summer Wars. The story is about a student who wants to do filming. He has an accident and you will learn more about that accident as the anime evolves (I assume).
Another: Love the dark theme of this. Thus far most of the dark themed shows have had less than stellar endings. Chaos;Head and 11 eyes were still decent anime, but the endings almost ruined them. I hope Another doesn't let me down again because the first episode was great.
High School DxD: My type of show and the show is actually airing without censors. No need to wait for the BD, you can get all the glory on TV. The first two episodes have had some good laughs and the story seems pretty good. My only fear is that they will mess up the ending going for a short 1 season show instead of following the entire light novel path.
Nisemonogatari: Need I say more? The first episode started with a bang and got Hitagi right back in the action. I was left speechless and I almost immediately popped in Bakemonogatari if not for having no time. The second episode again just captivates you. I can't say enough about this anime. There's a reason Bakemonogatari is still, AFAIK, the best selling anime in Japan. Fast paced intellectual banter, a little bit of fast past erotic subtext, lovable characters, a great story, etc.
The Knight in the Area: So far so good. It's a soccer anime and unlike Giant Killing the focus is on one player instead of the coach/team. It seems a little bit slower paced and less excitement than Giant Killing, but good none the less.
Zero no Tsukaima F: Exactly like the other seasons. Decent story, with Rie Kugimiya. I remember liking this series a lot more, but the first episode didn't do it for me. We'll see how things end. This is the final season.
Thanks for the cap on Amagami SS Plus captokita . I plan to watch this as well, but didn't know where they were going to take this. Good to see we get an after story. Can't wait to see what happens as a lot of the scenarios were so cute. Are they going into the after story from last season or just immediately after? Some of the girls they showed ending as adults while others were in school so I'm wondering what they are doing. I'd kind of like if they went back and forth between adult and student. |

I took a look at the show and you sorta overdo it :P He blushes mainly because they aren't blood related and the pantsu shot normally make kids there react like that. When Yuuta walks in on her she wasn't naked.
If you didn't like this then you might hate the Usagi Drop manga... |

| Holy hell... Another is impressing me. This is the first anime I've watched with all the gruesomeness shown. You see the girl twitching! I've never seen that in an anime! I mean you know it's a painful death, but to see the blood pouring out and her arms and legs twitch... My god, it's almost refreshing to see!
I'm impressed. Each episode so far has had that creepy feel to it. |
|
 | Yeah, that was kinda graphic, don't run with a sharp tipped umbrella in your hands! Though I'm getting tones of Blood.C in here, given the "everyone knows what's going on but the lead" thing.
Don't get me wrong, I'm liking the show so far, but I hope the story turns out somewhat original. |

| Well, given that the following I'd say if anything it would be Blood-C that was the unoriginal. I haven't seen Blood-C, so can't really comment, but they may differ in the end.
Another (Novel): 2009 Another (Manga): 2010 Another (Anime): 2011 Blood-C (Manga): 2011 Blood-C (Anime): 2011 |

Another (Novel): 2009 Another (Manga): 2010 Another (Anime): 2011 Blood-C (Manga): 2011 Blood-C (Anime): 2011 Well, the Another anime is actually 2012, as far as airdates go. While the story may be older, the Blood.C anime was shown first. I LIKED the Blood.C anime btw, I thought it was really good, and look forward to the movie. I also enjoy Another, and think it's one of the tops for this season. I'm looking forward to how this one will go. |
|
 | reply to captokita Wow, Another keeps getting better! This week was one of those "Oh, no!" episodes, that tops last week. Really looking forward to this one going forward now.
High School D*D: I think this show would be 100 times better were it not for the overly bouncy, nekkid boobies they throw at you. The story is actually pretty good, and I'm enjoying it a lot. I know others will disagree with me, but I'm not a big fan of overdone fanservice/nudity, as it really doesn't add anything to the series for me. The story is there though.
Is it me, or is Bodacious Space Pirates the SLOWEST progressing show in history? We're through 4 episodes and she's still not a pirate, we've not seen the pirate ship. If the series is only 12/13 episodes long, that means a rush to the end, which likely won't bode well for this one.
Brave 10 is also pretty decent, if you like the samurai formula, which I do. Enough action to keep it moving along.
Who else is watching Bleach? I know this is a quick manga story, and looks to be a quick anime arc as well, wonder if they're planning a filler arc before the backup arrives? I gotta admit, I'm not a big fan of the story, but the anime has shown it well. The manga is on a 3 week hiatus, so it's going to catch up quick. |
|
 | reply to captokita I will probably just watch the final arc of Bleach when they air. Haven't watched the show in years. |

KearnstdElf WizardPremium join:2002-01-22 Mullica Hill, NJ | reply to captokita So how do most people here in the US consume Anime? I have started to poke around the stuff a bit and have noticed some good series are not available here.(I have tried finding Macross: Frontier which I hear is well made)
Am I accurate in that many shows are tied up in IP rights issues? -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports |
|
 | Well, selling anime in the states is a risky business and costly since they don't charge as much as they do in Japan. Heck, Bandai stopped distributing anime here recently.
I consume anime like everyone else, torrent or stream them. I'd also just download the raw if I need to for older shows. |
|
 | reply to Kearnstd said by Kearnstd:So how do most people here in the US consume Anime? Depends, what stuff are you talking about? Recent shows, like those in this thread, or shows that have been out for months/years?
For the current stuff, I use Crunchyroll, or I download them via torrents/fansubs.
As for the older stuff, either I downloaded it when it originally aired and have it, like Macross Frontier, which was indeed good btw, or I'll buy the discs when they come out. As for much older stuff, you'll have to look at flea markets and the like. I'm trying to get myself a copy of the horrendous dub of Ambassador Magma for the blarging dog. |
