Re: modem B90 36r516 Anyone help?

said by biker1bob:

Does the old 516 have a web interface?? all the common locations like 192.168.0.1 or .0.10 or .0.254 dont seem to work

The 516 has no web interface and you must use a westell utility to change the vpi/vci if needed
Do you know if the isp requires the use of pppoe or dhcp

Hmmm not positive, was told if the modem worked on bell it would work with them.. but I know this can only use pppoe right? could I not use with a router in bridged mode and still work with dhcp?

It would help me if you posted who is your isp

The 516 cannot initiate a pppoe session
The 516 is always in bridge mode

You will need a router or computer to make the pppoe or dhcp connection

·Acanac

Acanac is who I plan to use.

OK, always in bridge mode.. so I either use the router or XP etc.. but their service is 6mb the 516 is 8mb max..

I figure this should work fine, I want to use a WRT54GL to use wireless and setup a wifi hotspot anyway.

Ok, I guessing acanac uses pppoe and the same vpi/vci as bell

Yes that's correct

The 516 can handle the 6Mbps speed easily

Once the modems power and ready lights are steady green and the correct vpi/vci are set it's ready to use

Thanks wayjac.. that helps. I know I can get a modem for $40 but it seems wrong to throw away stuff that works.
