[billing] Dry Loop Pricing

Wanted to dump my landline. Rang in to inquire. Now, I'm paying $31.99 for the DSL & expected it to go up by $5. Oh no, it's 44.95 for 3.0 dry loop! Geez, I'm only paying about $54 for the combo.

Yeah, it makes sense to just go for the combo. I dumped my voice service this past spring and the DSL went up to $44.99 from 29.99 for 3 Mbps. I was paying $54.99 ($65 with taxes and fees) for the Freedom Essentials/3Mbps Double Play. I picked up voice again in late October because it just made sense to have an unlimited POTS line for basically $20 more than DSL dry loop. When I went through two hurricanes this summer my cell service failed both times after being without power for 24 hours. My father's POTS was up the entire five days his power was out. I don't want to go through that again.

just so you know
landline service power is supplied by the service trucks with thier generator hooked in... in case the entire line gets lost due to tree fall etc.
thats how you still get dial tone and can make calls
and thats if your lucky
just sayin

I dumped my voice and went dry loop back in 2007.
now I have magicJack on my DSL, and a cel phone.
have not missed my old pots line or phone number,
or giving Verizon another $15/mo for nothing useful.

honestly, if Cable modem service is available, it may
be less of a headache to use their ISP only service,
and completely dump Verizon altogether as they do
not seem to care about copper customers anymore.

Same happens with FIOS as the internet alone will run you $15.00 more a month if you do not subscribe to voice or TV.

I'd SO love to get FIOS, but no-go here! Yet a friend one town over has it! :þ
