Re: RANT: Itunes is the Biggest Piece of Shit

said by beze:

It is, I've been using computers since the Apple ][+. Last March I bought a Creative Zen V+. Proprietary software, I figured it out in all of 10 minutes. In September I bought a Shuffle. I must have spent 2 hours trying to figure out itunes...and I still don't completely know how to use it. This is the Windows version, I've seen screenshots of the Mac version, it looks easier to use, but as someone said earlier in the thread, it's just as bad.

They are identical...I have iTunes on OS X and Win7.

And they both suck.

I long given up. Apple does everything so well except for iTunes.

Re: RANT: Itunes is the Biggest Piece of Shit

Actual message from iTunes:

iTunes has found purchased items on the iPhone “joako’s iPhone” that are not present in your iTunes library. Do you want to transfer these items from this iPhone back to your iTunes library?

If you do not transfer these purchased items to your iTunes library, they will be removed from the iPhone.

Seriously who comes up with this crap "Do you want to backup or erase the apps on your iPhone?" Tt even has the "don't ask me again" option -- just in case you want to automatically delete the apps on your phone every time you perform a backup.

How does Apple know it was purchased and not ripped from a CD you already own?

Say you buy from Amazon with a computer or wifi tablet instead of a phone? Especially if the other device is not an Apple device?

Just give up and learn to love it.

This, right here, should be Apple's new corporate motto. Totally.

Apple -
Just let me drag and drop. Quit treating me like a damned idiot and get your greedy bastard hands off of my wallet!

I don't own any newer Apple gear, (I despise their corporate philosophy, for starters; I'll spare you the rest) so maybe someone can clue me in here (please).

I run iTunes 2.0.4 on a machine around here. One of the more irritating aspects of that early version of iTunes is the inability to change the order of music in the library via drag and drop. Instead, I have to create a new playlist and then I can, very carefully, add stuff to that playlist in the desired order. It's far too painstaking a process than it really ought to be.

Has this glaring deficiency still not been corrected as of 2011? Because judging from this thread, it sure sounds like it.

The number 1 thing that bugged me about iTunes was it needing an update every other day. Considering how often the dang thing is updated, I could never figure out why they didn't just include some auto-updater tech that could prevent you having to reinstall the whole app every time they have the smallest update.

BTW - for the last 6 months I've been totally Apple product free (and man does it feel good).

Why do you need to update? You can keep using the same version as long as you want -- it never expires.

Ipods are great, itunes blow, yes. But, one does not need itunes to use ipods and all its features, there are free and paid tools out there to manage music, mvies, pictures, and podcasts.
I use foobar2000 but there are other tools that can be used that mimic itunes look but doe not need to be installed, just put the exe on ipod and walah!
Do a google search for itunes alternatives for ipods.
