Time Warner Cable is threatening to drop KRIS-TV, the CW South Texas, KDF, and KAJA-Telemundo at 11:59 pm on Monday, December 12, 2011. Tell Time Warner if it drops your favorite shows, you will drop Time Warner.

Facebook note:
quote:
Corpus Christi, Texas (December 9, 2011) - Time Warner Cable has informed KRIS-TV that it has refused to accept KRIS-TV's unconditional offer of an extension of the current agreement through the end of 2011. As a result, Time Warner Cable will take the apparently unprecedented step of dropping four local channels all at once despite the legal right and ability to carry those channels. Specifically, at 11:59 p.m. on December 12, 2011, Time Warner Cable will drop KRIS-TV, the market's NBC affiliate and news leader; CW South Texas, Independent Station KDF, and Corpus Christi Telemundo affiliate KAJA.

To avoid impacting local viewers, KRIS-TV presented the cable operator with very generous terms for carriage of its four channels. KRIS-TV also offered, and hereby extends again, an extension of the current agreement through December 31, 2011.

Time Warner Cable, however, has informed KRIS-TV that it will no longer offer these local channels unless KRIS-TV accepts immediately a proposal offered by the cable operator that is not consistent with marketplace conditions.

Local viewers will be adversely affected by Time Warner Cable's unilateral decision because they will need to cancel their cable service and switch to DirecTV or Dish Network. Consumers therefore will pay the price of Time Warner Cable's decision through disruption, delays while waiting for new service, and potential costs for canceling cable service and replacing set-top boxes.

"I am shocked," said Tim Noble, President and General Manager of KRIS-TV. "We offered Time Warner Cable a no-strings-attached extension until December 31, but they refuse to take it." Mr. Noble continued, "Time Warner Cable can keep our stations on until the end of the month while we continue to talk. I thought we were making good progress. I see no reason to hold viewers hostage if we are making progress. I guess Time Warner disagrees."

In a Petition that Time Warner Cable, along with several other cable and satellite operators, filed with the Federal Communications Commission in March 2010, Time Warner Cable urged the FCC to order an extension if the parties were negotiating in good faith. "We are giving Time Warner Cable exactly what it is telling the FCC it wants: an extension. Time Warner Cable cannot take yes for an answer," said Mr. Noble.

If Time Warner Cable does not accept KRIS-TV's extension, its subscribers will lose access to KRIS-TV, which means no Sunday Night Football, no Wildcard Playoff games on NBC, no Super Bowl, no Tonight Show or NBC prime time programming. They also will lose KRIS-TV's local programming, which includes top rated KRIS 6 News, Sports and Weather. Finally, Time Warner Cable's customers will not receive the CW South Texas, KDF, including 6 News at 9PM , or KAJA- the local Telemundo affiliate. Time Warner Cable's decision will not affect DirecTV, Grande Cable, Dish Network or any other provider.

"The extension offer stands," Mr. Noble explained. "If Time Warner Cable wants to continue to carry all of our stations until December 31, 2011, it can do so as we work toward a new agreement"

If Time Warner Cable chooses to drop KRIS-TV, the CW, KDF, and KAJA, the programming will remain available on other cable and satellite providers. It also will be available for free over the air with an antenna. Time Warner Cable's decision will not impact KZTV-TV-CBS, which will remain on Time Warner Cable's channel lineup.

they are trying to get more $$ for their channels and that post looks poorly written as it almost looks like they are trying do TWC subscribers a favor by getting paid.

Wow! Sounds like they mean business. How is the backlash there, if any?

TWC has aparently made some claims that the owners of the stations are asking for a 400% increase to carry the channels which doesn't seem true. You can read a little about it here: »www.kristv.com/timewarner

They even got a document filing talking about that agreement with the FCC to keep the channels till the 31st which TWC obviously isn't doing. You should see the TWC facebook page though, it had lots of hateful posts on it monday and some on tuesday too

Yep. TWC is paying because a lot of people here are dropping TWC for TV services and going with the other cable company or a sattelite dish. I would drop TWC for TV services too but my name isn't primary name on the bill and I am unable to work right now so I don't have any money for pay for installation of anything else.

Well nearly two weeks later and they have yet to reach a new agreement. We are still without NBC / FOX and a couple of others.

TWC San Diego might drop KFMB (CBS) if they do not reach a deal by 1.1.12. TWC has not reached a deal as of now, so they will likely bring this down to the wire. It does not really matter, as I will likely switch over to DirecTV where our area has the wonderful HDUI.

Starting tomorrow it will be four weeks since TWC stole the channels from us. I don't believe one bit what they are saying until I see concrete proof.

G0d

@rr.com

Concrete proof for what? Nobody needs your approval of anything. There are certain things that each side obviously doesnt agree on so there can be no retrans agreement. Is it that hard to understand?

No where did I say anything about needing my approval. You missed the point of the entire thread. What I am saying is that I want to see some proof as to what TWC is saying when it comes to an alleged 400% increase in carriage fees. I do not believe that at all, its such a large jump that I just don't think its feasable on such a claim.

G0d

@rr.com

well remember that its always not about plain money. Each side can argue over what channels they carry or even what frequency they are put into. In some cases some stations want more channels of theirs carried and push for that. Only the two sides know what details are so its just a matter of time. If its taken a month i guarantee there is a good reason for it. Nobody wants to have to pull channels off the air especially local channels.

Heres another story they did today about rabbit ears and how local stores have had to order extras for the increase in demand.
