Re: [TWC] TWC South Texas has dropped some of our local stations

We lost channel 4 (CBS) here in Buffalo for a few weeks a couple of years ago.

The local station lost LOTS of advertising revenue.

Yea i believe it. I am having a tough time finding a clear signal sometimes though, it must be the weather though because oddly enough right now when the news cast is going on its pretty clear and doesnt get choppy.

Could also be the ears themselves too they are quite a few years old.

I still think though time warner here is loosing a few more customers than ones like me that are staying though. I only enjoyed watching the news on NBC not just local news but Inside Edition too.

I say good for Time Warner Cable. These Local TV Stations should have never been allowed to charge cable/satellite companies to retransmit their signal, if anything, these TV Stations should be paying the Cable/Satellite companies since it gets more eyes for it's programming.

I hope one day soon ABC, CBS, NBC & Fox do away with local affiliates and make all their programming available nationally via Cable/Satellite companies, just like any cable channel. Local news could use public access on the local cable company if they want to continue having it.

Hob I may have to take you up on that offer. This pair I have here is starting to give me crap and I am having a tough time getting it to keep a clear signal now no matter where I put them.

Got this email today. They say they are continuing to communicate with them but are just trying to cover their asses for their mistake. They say the local station pulled the channels off the air but that is a blatant lie because everything else around here still carries them all.

"They say the local station pulled the channels off the air but that is a blatant lie because everything else around here still carries them all."

In EVERY retransmission dispute it is ALWAYS the network that pulls the channels. Actually the email says nothing about "pulling the channels of the air" its says "they pulled the plug"

Yea it's all he said she said pretty much. Btw if you really got an extra set of rabbit ears you could send that would be great. I don't have the money right now to go and buy some much less transportation. So if you got one i'll PM you my address.

Here's a new story this week. A local attorney has filed suit against time warner and according to the story it isn't the first time, the first time was back before Time Warner took over what it used to be.

Hilarious! I love how they compensated his bill for 1 dollar. That says alot of about how much that garbage channel is worth. Of course its an attorney making the suit because for anyone one else it would be pointless and would cost money to sue for something so lame. Maybe they will give him a 5 dollar credit for his troubles. lol

NBC is pretty big down here, a lot of good stuff shows on it. Don't matter to me anymore though but it does to some others I know.

Well any major network like that is sort of a big deal. I was mostly just amused with the punch to the gut from twc by giving him the 1 dollar credit for his lost channels.

I think this dispute could highlight abuse by the local ota tv channel operators trying to gouge cable customers for their money. The main reason there is a cost for the basic tier was originally to support local access and help pay to maintain the cable system.

Yea I believe it. Also as a side note, had 2 free antennaes picked up from the local service center this morning. Already had an older one in my room but maybe a newer one will work better.

I remember when broadcasters fought for additional coverage, and invested in new transmitting & tower equipment to reach more people. They were happy to charge advertisers more for delivery of commercial content when they added coverage.

Here is one of the commercials that ran before the super bowl poking at time warner.

Yeah kris screwed up big by pulling this stunt. Not anytime has twc bashed them for anything other than stating facts about whats going on. So this was pretty much the turning point for negotiating in good faith. I hope kris bankrupts from loss of ad revenue since they are no longer pushed out to 100K subs. Oh well my antenna works just fine when i need it.

1 edit

The whole bad faith thing started long before the super bowl and this commercial came out. Time warner quit responding way before this commercial was conceived

EDIT: I also want to mention that I was told that it was a San Antonio firm that produced the commercial not the local news station.
