| [Travel] Parkways and small pickups - LGA via Triboro or Whitest I have a small pickup truck (GMC Sonoma) registered as a "combination" vehicle in CT. I am allowed to run the CT parkways with this vehicle. Can I run the Hutch or GCP with this truck?
I need to travel to LGA on Wed the 21st for an 8pm flight. I'm coming south on 684. Travel via 87 then over the Triboro is nearly the same mileage for me as The Whitestone and Grand Central Parkway.
Any suggestions on which route to take? Any major lane closures on either?
Thanks |

A CT combination reg on NY parkways is OK now thanks to former Governor Pataki changing the law under his watch (pickups can now have passenger tags here)... as long as your pickup has a GVW of 6000 or less you're good to go. -- I turned on my computer for this? |

But I did have one cop tell me on the Bronx River Parkway my pickup wasnt allowed on parkways. For all I know, this cop could have been a misinformed asshole. -- You're so vain... NYS says that I must have commercial plates on it due to the weight. About 7klbs. So I cant go on the parkways. HOWEVER if i make it bigger but putting a camper cover on it I can get passenger plates. The whole thing is stupid. There are Heavier and bigger SUVs that have passenger plates. -- My horse fights with me and fasts with me because if he is to carry me into battle, he must know my heart and I must know his or we shall never become brothers. -Plenty Coups, Chief of the Crow |

| reply to Grumpy From what I can piece together from web browsing, only vehicles with true passenger type registrations / plates are allowed on most sections of the NY parkways. CT's "Combination" plates are not recognized by NY as passenger type registrations. CT has begun issuing passenger registrations to certain sizes of pickups in response to this. Mine is a combination plate, and I have neither the patience nor disposable funds to endure a $100 brain crush at CT DMV to change my reg.
Then again, certain short parkway sections do allow truck traffic in certain circumstances.
I have a feeling the complexity of the situation causes discrepancies in enforcement, to put it politely.

There shouldn't be an issue with commercial plated pickups and such but NY was never a city to let a revenue oppoprtunity pass by. -- ~ Insert a Funny Sig Here ~ |

A passenger registered pickup must have a cap or closed bed.
No ladders on any vehicles. -- --Standard disclaimers apply.--
