JobbieKeep It SimplePremium join:2010-08-24 Mexico | Help with Upgrades (GPU and Cooling) Hi,
I am looking forward to the holiday sales in order to upgrade my video card and CPU cooling solution, not planning on watercooling so it is going to be on air.
Current Specs: CPU Phenom II 1100T BE 4.1 Ghz
Motherboard Asus Crosshair Formula V
Memory G Skill F3-12800CL9Q-16GBRL
Graphics Card XFX Ati Radeon 4890

Case Antec 900 (Have a HAF 942 ready for the switch)
CPU cooling Thermaltake V1

| The V8 is blah. I have one I'll send you if you really want one. I'd suggest a Corsair Hydro like the H60 or H70, and then get a GTX 560, with plans to pick up a second one down the road (or hell, if you want my V8, you can buy two 560s). -- If we lose this freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment, those who had the most to lose, did the least to prevent its happening. |

ATI 6970 with non-reference cooling so it is quiet ($320) - »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···14102957
Cooler Master Hyper 212+ (Best budget air cooler on the market. You can get the $75+ solutions, but you may only drop 1-2C and the 212 is quiet as well) ($21) - »www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyp···02G1YPH0
I think these two are the best bang for the buck and leaves you $150 for a nice Crucial M4 64GB or 128GB SSD Boot/Game drive. Personally, an SSD is going to make the biggest speed upgrade you've ever seen. People think SSD owners are exaggerating when saying that but I'll put it this way, I'll never have a build/laptop without an SSD again. It is THAT noticeable. |

| reply to Jobbie Yeah, or you could get the EVGA 560ti WIN which is two 560s on one card.
The V8 is a great cooler, I ended up getting a Prolimatech Megahalems which was the "best of the best" of the air coolers (the V8 can only mount one fan), and then I ditched that for the Corsair H100. The Megahalems is only about 5C cooler than the V8, and the H100 is probably only 10C cooler than the V8. |
|
 | reply to Jobbie The real question is what is your current cpu cooler for you to hit 4.1 at what temps?
Evga overclock or superclock... forgot the name of the cpu cooler that is my vote. I just like how it looks hehe (and it is said to perform good)
Gpu's I like nvidia (used amd got pissed) so I would say 2 560 tis should be sweet... depending on how long you plan to keep those cards I would look into a 2 gig version. |

JobbieKeep It SimplePremium join:2010-08-24 Mexico 1 edit | I currently use this, since 2007(8):

The fan is showing its age and its a pain to change and the AMD bracket is crap so i need a new one, since i am moving everything to the new HAF.
Temps are: 30C Idle and around 65-68 on Prime Blend mode just with multiplier change. Still tweaking the volts though i think i got lucky with a good OC CPU.
Planning to keep the card(s) for at least 2-3 years for me to get the new gen cards. -- "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." |

 | reply to Gordo74 I have to echo that, that cooler rocks. Just put it into my AMD 8 core, and wow. You can really see the drop in temp and can really push for overclock. I got mine at newegg for around $25/$30 I think. |

| If the Hyper 212+ doesn't cut it let me know if you want the V8, you just gotta cover shipping (my wife is prompting me to get rid of some of the computer parts I have lying around the house). -- If we lose this freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment, those who had the most to lose, did the least to prevent its happening. |

JobbieKeep It SimplePremium join:2010-08-24 Mexico | Sure thing, i will put everything together this weekend. |
|
 | reply to Jobbie I just put my amd 8 core with the 212 and o/c it to 4500 with that. Running video encoding it never goes over about 105f.
My old x4 amd with stock cooler would push 140+.
And you never really think how big that cooler is till you get it in your hands. |

JobbieKeep It SimplePremium join:2010-08-24 Mexico | This is so true, doing the whole transfer this weekend just waiting the graphics card to cross the border and i am set. -- "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." |
