[NFL] The Next Coach to be fired

The Sports Network has written an article speculating on whose head is on the chopping block next.

If this all came through, there will be a serious upheaval in the NFL next season.

I think Turner and Spagnulo have to go. Turner can take a bad team upward toward mediocrity and can take a good team downward toward mediocrity. Spagnulo has a team that never improves.

Morris and Caldwell might get another year, might not. The Bucs did surprisingly well under Morris last year, and this year they've done surprisingly poorly. Caldwell won't win a game, but that's more the fault of bad personnel choices made above his head. The Colts roster, absent Manning, is way below average. Both might get fired though.

Frazier has a declining team. If they bring in a new coach he'll have the same thing. The defense has gone way downhill expecially, and rookie QB's take time to learn.

I think Coughlin and Ried are safe, though I'd fire Reid.

The Giants have wanted to get rid of Coughlin for awhile now, but every time they think they have a case, the Giants go out and get it done. Bill Cowher has been sitting in a broadcast booth waiting for this job to open up, the same way Coughlin was waiting for the Giant position to open up when Fassel was there.

The media in San Diego want Cowher to be the next coach of the Chargers.

I think Coughlin will be fired, especially if they do not make the playoffs. It's the same story each year with them, good first half terrible second, but they usually are able to make the playoffs. If they make the playoffs this season and make some noise he may be able to keep his job.

I do not think Bill Cowher wants to coach again. If he does It will have be the coach of the Carolina Panthers so he can be with his family.

If that was the case he would have been hired instead of Ron Rivera. It's been the underlying story for awhile that he's waiting for the Giant position to free up.

WE will see if Coughlin get fired but in my opinion Cowher will not take the job. If he does he should be a good coach for the Gaints.

I think Coughlin's job is safe for now.
And I don't really see the big deal about Cowher, to be honest.

Why Andy Reid?

"Many may ask why Andy Reid is ranked above coaches who have one Super Bowl win, or in the case of Mike Shanahan, multiple Super Bowls.

Because those coaches did not play in four-straight NFC championship games.

Reid may go down as the Marv Levy of our generation, a great coach who could never win a Super Bowl, but he should be revered as one of the best coaches in NFL history.

Reid has won with Donovan McNabb, A.J. Feeley, Jeff Garcia, Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick. He has won with veteran teams and young teams. What remains the same is that Andy Reid is able to identify, develop and motivate players to become their best.

Let this sink in for a moment. In 12 seasons, the Eagles have played in five NFC championship games under Reid. That's pretty damn impressive."

It is. But it won't be in two weeks.

The Cowboys look poised to take the NFC East and leave the Giants watching it on TV while Coghlin works on his resume. There is even a chance - not even an impossible one - that Philly takes the NFC East. (Jets beat Giants, Eagles win out & Giants beat the Cowboys. All three teams would be 8-8. This puts the Eagles as the division winners.) Again, Coghlin gets fired.

I think the Giants have a better than decent chance of winning the Division and winning one or two in the playoffs. They've got a better team, in my opinion, than the Eagles or Cowboys. Their secondary still sucks, though, and the O-Line is pretty inconsistent.

Even though Coughlin has done a mediocre job in preparing the Giants a few times in the past weeks, the Giants rebound and Coughlin keeps his job.

That's my take, anyway.

And if the Giants don't win out, I'd rather see the Cowboys win the Division over the Eagles. They'd have a decent chance of actually winning a game in the playoffs.

I don't think any of the NFC East teams look poised to win the division. They've all stumbled numerous times all season in games they should have won.

I hear you. That's true. But I am basing the 'Cowboys' being poised to win, by that they are one game up on the Giants and have already beaten the Giants (making it essentially two games up). They still have to play each other again and are apparently equal in inconsistency.

(edit - brainfart. I watched the Cowboys-Giants game. Awesome ending.)

The Cowboys didn't beat the Giants yet this season.

There are a bunch of different scenarios, and the Giants, Cowboys and even the Eagles could end up winning the Division.

I think it plays out like this though, as far as the Giants and Jets are concerned: »sports.yahoo.com/nfl/playoffscen···00015414

Aside from the Giant's beating the Jets, I think you're right. The only matchups that are questionable to me in your scenario and have an effect on the Giants & Jets playoff chances are:

wk16 - Jets/Giants - could go either way, IMHO.

wk16 - Eagles/Cowboys - again, I think this could go either way. With MV back, the Eagles look very impressive

wk17 - Ravens/Bengals - Cincinnati could actually win this. Baltimore has played very bad against losing teams; and they may also likely have nothing to play for.

wk17 - Giants/Cowboys - yeah, I know you would like the Giants to win and they do have homefield advantage. But one can't be sure whether the good or bad Giants or Cowboys (four teams) shows up to play.

wk17 - Jets/Phins - Phins have been a dangerous team lately. The Jets are a better team, but again, also inconsistent.

wk17 - Eagles/Skins - this could go either way, IMHO.

Well, that's why they play the games. Christmas eve - brother against brother in NY.

That's interesting...I won't bet the farm but maybe an acre or two on the Jets beating the Giants....I feel Sanchez to Plaxico will be a huge factor in the outcome of the game....As we get nearer to game time I am liking the Jets more and more to beat the Giants....I see Joe Willile came out predicting Jets 27-16...I like Jets..38-23

I feel the Superbowl winner will end up being The Jets ( by sheer luck ), The Saints or The Lions.

I was thinking something similar - because maybe Plaxico will be amped up to show the Giants what they lost by offering him league minimum for one year, after he got out of prison. Santanio Holmes could also be ready to atone for his mistakes against the Eagles.

Yikes! (Another homer.) I am thinking Saints, myself. Greenbay has too porous a pass defense and now some key injuries. Pittsburg, with Rothlesburger hurt the way he is is not going anywhere. New England, another porous defense and frankly is not close to what it once was. Ravens? Cowboys? Giants? No. All will lose a playoff game before getting there. Texans? San Francisco? One and done. No playoff experience. Broncos? Falcons? Lions? No way - again, no current playoff experience, and not really going to beat the top teams in their conference to get to the Superbowl. Jets? They have made it close two years in a row. If they get in, winning three games on the road is still almost impossible. And then they would have to also still win the Superbowl. Hard to pick that with one's money. That leaves the Saints. And Bres is playing lights-out. But, stranger things have happened.

If I had to pick now, it would be Jets or NE against the Saints; with the Saints winning. And if the Saints don't make it, then put me down for Greenbay or the 49ers, but losing in the superbowl.
