| [TiVo] Comcast Tivo Service Currently a double play Comcast customer (HSI and Phone). Thinking of going to triple play and upgrading my whole house to HD at the same time.
www.comcast.com/tivo/
This is apparently the Tivo software loaded onto the Comcast Motorola HD DVR box. Pretty interesting.
* Is this available everywhere? * The link above says it is included in the triple play bundle price. Is that right? * Can I get it on every new HD DVR that I order for my house? * Can I get it installed later, after the initial upgrade to TV from my current double play, and if so what is involved in that later upgrade (truck roll, just a software push, and cost)?
Sorry if this has been covered here before. I did some searching and didn't really see a comprehensive, up to date, post with info on this service. Lots of old info on the internet about when it went into trial, etc., but nothing recent. |

 | That Service with the Tivo software was tried out in the Boston market and it was a flop. They could not get it work correctly so that was abandon. They are suppose to testing out using the Tivo premiere with vod and ppv capabilities. The url you provided does not work. It gives this 404 - File or directory not found. -- Caddy |

 | That url worked but as for as I know Comast stopped that years because it did work. You can call Comcast and see if it they are still offering it -- Caddy |

| Thanks. FYI, DirecTV is getting Tivo again. They told me they'd have it available after Jan 12th. Cost is going to be hefty though - $400 per box. Of course thats a one time cost, where Comcast charges $15 a month, forever. DTV is $6 a month for the TV, whether it has a DVR or not.
Still at a $9 different and an up front $400 cost, it would take 3,7 years on DTV before you break even.
Tivo isn't all that important to me. I'm considering the switch from DTV to Comcast. I need everything upgraded to HD and with DTV that include a new dish and the works. Switching to Comcast would be easier because I already have HSI and Phone with them.
The more I look, the more I am thinking I'll stick with DTV. |

 | reply to brawney Since this thread from back in May (»[TiVo] Comcast onDemand coming soon to Tivo Premiere!), when Comcast and TiVo first announced the VOD deal, I have only found this mentioned again in a Light Reading Cable article/blog from October (»www.lightreading.com/blog.asp?bl···_cable):
Comcast VoD Coming to TiVo October 7, 2011
Comcast and AllVid champion TiVo Inc. are working on a way to bring the MSO's Xfinity On Demand to TiVo CableCARD devices. "We are aiming to start trialing the service later this year," the MSO said. There aren't any technical details in there, but it's most likely that the TiVo box's IP return path will be used to set up the VoD sessions in tandem with the SeaChange International Inc. backoffice. (tru2way probably won't have a role in the TiVo VoD implementation.) |

 | reply to brawney said by brawney: DTV is $6 a month for the TV, whether it has a DVR or not. You ARE aware that on top of the monthly $7 DTV normal DVR fee, that there is another monthly $5 "Tivo tax" if you have these new Tivo's.
Tivo isn't all that important to me. If it's a choice between it & DTV's "regular" DVR service, I would NOT even want it for FREE. NO MRV, & several other features missing that the regular ones have, makes this one a total looser IMHO.

Russ join:2011-03-17 Houston, TX kudos:1 2 edits | I think DirecTV's new five tuner DVRs have been either delayed or limited to certain cities. Also, other details in the stories may change. The new DirectTV TiVo does not work with DirecTV's Whole House service. DirecTV's Whole House DVR service is more advanced than Comcast's Whole House DVR service since you can have more than one DVR record TV shows.

| reply to brawney DirecTivo is the OLD tivo, just on an MPEG4 HD box from 2007 (HR22).
Pics over in this thread: »www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=199599
Yeah OLD crap from years ago. It's not even the Premiere or that cool all HD Virgin Media tivo with 3 tuners.
DirecTV's new HDUI (slowly rolling out - or you can force download it during the week usually around 6 AM EST) is WAY nicer.
As far as Comcast and Tivo, I'd like to see them follow through with this. They both move slow as molasses. |

 | reply to brawney I was talking to a Comcast field tech today that is currently testing the OnDemand feature on a Tivo. He said there are a few bugs but it has been working pretty good. Its just a software update to the Tivo, no additional hardware required. He had no idea when it will be released to the general public. |

 | reply to telcodad And 90%+ of this is self-inflicted, of course. Things have gotten a lot better for some systems (Comcast, in my area), but the billing for cards is still messed up - the article says that cards are free on Comcast but that's certainly not true in all areas. Many people report getting charged digital outlet fees for every card after the first. |

 | For those who are wondering how long TiVo Inc. may be around if they go ahead and spring for the lifetime service fee, there was just a Barron's article on the current good health of the company:
