[DISH] Dish and Slingbox Adapter

Just looking for some info here on the Dish Slingbox adapter, just wondering if anyone is using it and how do they like it. I travel extensively for work for 25-30 days at a time and thought this might allow m e to view some of the recorded shows. Currently in Canada for the next 3 months.

Thanks in advance for the help and info.

Depends a lot on your home broadband connection, and what its upload capacity is.

3-500kbs OK SD, but for anything nearing full SD/ED quality and smooth more like 700kbs-1mbs would be needed (especially if there are people still at home doing stuff). Again this is UPload not you DL speed.

Also for Mac and Win PC/laps the client software is free, but for smart devices (phones and tabs) it is a one time $30 for the app.

And the Sling devices will work with many sat or cable DVRs not just DISH

I think papawjim is talking about the Dish Sling adapter that plugs into specific Dish receivers (722 and 722K DVRs) via a USB connector, like this:

If that's the one, it probably won't work with other provider's equipment. You must be thinking about the standalone Sling products like the Slingbox PRO-HD which connects to anyone's device using analog input and output jacks.

papawjim should be concerned that he may not be able to access his programming from Canada. I'm not sure if Dish has restrictions in place like a lot of other providers that keep Canadian IP addresses from receiving online content from US providers. Is there anyone else out there who's currently in Canada but watches programming from a Sling device located in the US without any issues?

Got the sling adapter hooked up, watched some recorded content on my network and it worked great, even worked away from the house.

Real test was on my trip to Canada, as I wasn't really sure if it would work or not due to the normal restrictions placed on viewing network content out of the US. To my surprise the sling box works flawlessly here in Canada, will allow you to watch recorded content or live TV. Dish got this one right it appears.

Shhuushh.... or it will be disabled before you know it.... copyright holders get wind of it.
