[DISH] Reciever not working properly.

I have Dish Network, and my receiver isn't working. It is a HDTV VIP222K. It will say "Starting up" but it does nothing. I even unplug it and tried again, still nothing.

My only worries is will Dish replace the receiver without putting me on a 2 year contract? as I don't want to pay the ETF when U-verse is available. I don't mind paying $50.00 or whatever for the receiver to be replaced, I just don't want to pay over $300.00 for the ETF if I were to cancel Dish sometimes down the road.

They won't force you into a new contract when you get it replaced. They may try and insist that a "technician" has to come and swap it but don't let them do that. That will cost you, I think, $95.

See what they want to charge you... It might make sense to add the monthly service plan *right now* and then report the receiver failure. Don't worry, they'll let you. In fact, the phone rep might add the service plan and then start the receiver replacement. All it will cost you is ~$15 for shipping. Note: They require you keep the plan for 3 or 6 months though, so do the math to see what costs more money.

Give them a ring (800-333-3474) and tell them the unit will no longer power up, you've tried a couple different outlets etc with same results. Usually if you say its dead they wont argue and just send out a replacement. Unfortunately its been quite a few for me over the years.
