[INFO] water demand on HW boiler with cast iron radiators

I have to heat 3500 sq/ft . i have a choice between two peerless boilers one has 15 gals cap. the other 27 gals. Do you need a greater water capacity with the old cast iron radiators there fore the 27 gal rated peerless. or is the rating more for domestic hot water demands.
Thanks

Re: [INFO] water demand on HW boiler with cast iron radiator

Perhaps I don't fully understand the question, but if it were me, I'd have someone with extensive experience or knowledge figure boiler size via both a heat loss & radiation survey.

When the spec for a new boiler is presented, I'd question how that spec was developed. "We spec'd the new one at X because it's the same size / number of elements as the old one" is the exact wrong answer. "What did you come up with for a radiation total" would be a good question to ask so as to ascertain that a radiation survey had been done. After the above is determined, the water question should be calc'd.

Too big a boiler, too little a boiler or lack of knowledge of gravity system boilers (if applicable) often & usually = huge problems later on.
