FTC Charges Telemarketers with violating DNC

Saw this pop up today...

I'm pretty fed up with "Card Services" myself...

The problem is "Card Services" is a scam that just will not die, no matter how many times the government manages to shut one down. The last one was like 2 years ago. The very next day after I read the judgment, I received 2 calls from the same "Rachael at Card Services" as if nothing had happened.

What I find sad is how many people you see on 800notes.com who are completely clueless and start ranting for the callers to stop, that they're on the DNC, they don't have a credit card, blah blah blah.

The asshats don't give a crap about the DNC or whether you have any card debt, or anything else. The M.O. is to get some dimwit who refuses to become educated about these scams and blindly gives out their info to strangers. Nail 1K folks for $1K out of every 1M calls with practically zero overhead and they're living large. Good luck getting the money back from them.

As sad as it may be for some senior to get taken, NO ONE in the US can claim they didn't know about scammers. In recent years, warnings and how to spot a scam info has been pushed continually on all the network and local TV news programs, in the newspapers, at supermarkets, AARP mailings, you name it. As long as people ignore it, sorry, but they really have to shoulder the blame for these scams not going extinct.

Got a call just this morning. They start scamming pretty early in the morning if the number isn't spoofed (though it probably is).

The ID said DUMMYCOURSES with an Oregon phone number. I got it at 10:34am which would mean they are at it at 7:34am if located there.

The number is guaranteed to be spoofed. They can be anywhere on the planet that an internet connection fast enough for voip is available. Make no assumptions at all about their location, and don't even bother trying to callback the number. Your best bet is, if you have a few minutes, take the call and waste their time by pretending to be sincere and interested...give them bogus information and break the connection while you're about to give them a credit card number. I'll get out the first 4 digits of a Visa or MasterCard and hang up in mid-syllable. That ruins their day far more than cussing them out or telling them to stop calling you.

Same here. Got a few calls before from different phone numbers. Same script, telling me they can lower my credit card interest rates. After I heard the script, I hung up. No use putting up with these kind of people.

By the way. this was the phone number 156-724-8440 that appeared on my CID. I looked the number up online and it came up at Callercenter as being linked to this credit card services scam.

Looks like a few others got calls, too.

Old cute Rachael call here today at 3:10. Todays number was 626-216-0703. Stated it was my second and final call about lower my rates. Funny thing is it's the third call in last two days!

Dead give away that it's a scam: No area code can start with "1."

I was wondering why Rachael from Card Services stopped calling me... The last time they called the caller ID actually said 'Scam call'.... of course when I tried to call back, the number was out of service.

Interesting move; have the companies structured to be outside the US... some of those countries won't necessarily sieze assets. The downfall was that there was the person who was in the US who could be charged.

Your use of the airhorn has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the calls stopping. From what I have pieced together, "Card Services" is not just one scammer: It is any number of them running concurrently. All it means when calls stop is that one particular group has moved on for the time being. Some folks get hit continuously, some can have weeks or even months go by before they get a call...all depends on where the autodialers are aimed.
