[Rant] Comcast "Internet Essentials"

I haven't seen any other reviews on the "Internet Essentials" program offered by Comcast, but I wrote one.

»Review of Comcast by torrent12

I don't know if anyone cares or has been curious about what Comcast is offering, but I have to admit that I am pleased with the service.

Cheers

It's crap like this that drives peoples rates up because they are paying for other people who could not afford the kids they had so now we have to cut them a deal. When I was a kid my father struggled and I can say that 20% the days I went to school took something from home or did without because their were no free nothing and I am thankful for that because its like people in Africa who get on TV talking about they have starving children lol so why did you have 10 more when u could not afford one.In my thinking if you can't afford the service that everyone else pays for then u don't get any until u can.Comcast does not eat these costs they are handed down just like my equipment rates have went up twice because of equipment upgrades lol but yet I still have the same equipment I was issued originally other than what I have bout.Give those increases to the people who is getting the new stuff that's what I say. Kids come after being established but our society don't get that now they think people who planned their moves and executed needs to pay for those who are irresponsible and when it comes to kids it makes that ok for me because its not their fault for their parents mistakes. That is my rant and its not directed at anybody other than socialism because at 10 a month it will take almost a damn year to pay for sending a guy to install it plus tech visits and believe you me Comcast is not moving that cost to overhead that cost will come from people like me.

As a condition of Comcast's January 2011 acquisition of NBC Universal,
A $30 billion merger
The new company will own one the largest cable and broadband internet service providers in the U.S., 10 TV and movie production studios (including Universal Pictures), 20 cable channels, 11 regional broadcast TV stations, 15 Telemundo stations, 9 regional sports cable networks, one regional news cable station (New England Cable News), a whole bunch of websites, two pro sports teams in Philadelphia and two arenas, a food service vendor, a ticket agency, and four theme parks. And some other stuff.
Added to the cost of the merger giving some old but working hardware
obviously used not refurbished to Low-Income Families
And $9.95 per month for a connection that features 1.5 Mbps download and 384 Kbps upload speeds.
And a lot of Free publicity their 500 some million advertising budget can't buy
That I'm sure will be a Tax write off not a bad deal
If your bill goes up it will not because of this

Re: [Rant] Comcast "Internet Essentials"

This was one of the conditions they had for the merger with NBC to be approved.

I can only hope you complain this hard when your local network affiliate milks the cable company for more revenue. That has a much bigger chance of raising your rates than anyone using "internet Essentials" does.

Not to mention: did you even read the review? The OP is working his way through college, not some freeloader. And if Comcast is offering internet service for $9.99, well, that's still money in their pocket vs. not having a customer at all, on an installed plant that is there whether the customer pays for it or not. And to boot: it's a tax write-off for Comcast.
