[Speed Problem] Need advice on improving slow AT&T DSL Elite Spe

Hello.
I have the AT&T DSL Elite package and like many... I am not able to attain decent speeds. I get roughly 1/3 to 1/4 of what I should be. Any advice would very much appreciated.

Thank You.

6. ALL Devices (Except Modem) Have Filters installed

7. Powered down modem... had no effect

8. Lines sound clear

Re: [Speed Problem] Need advice on improving slow AT&T DSL Elite

Is this something new or has it always been slow like this?

Your attenuation is fine for an Elite line, but your noise margin is poor for only a 3584 sync speed.

I think you might have missing frequencies due to interference. Please post the results of this DMT test: »SBC DSL FAQ »How can I check for the maximum attainable sync speeds with a 5100b/4100 modem?

Can you access your NID for additional stats testing? »AT&T Southeast Forum FAQ »How to check modem stats, synch rates & speeds from test jack at the NID.

Thank you for the reply.

I've only recently had this dsl account... maybe three weeks and it's been like this the entire time. I do, however; have access to the NID outside.

For now, I've attached my DMT test results and hopefully I've done it correctly.

Actually you are supposed to "run" that techreadout file through the DMT tool and then post the results; however, from your techreadout file I noticed that you are having a lot of CRC errors.

Could you check your hybrid number and report the results?: »SBC DSL FAQ »What do the hybrid numbers mean and what do they tell you about your line? A bridged tap in your internal wiring might pick up enough interference to cause the high CRC error rate.

Well I was halfway there. Lol I got a new "techreadout" this morning and ran it through the DMT Tool. I saved the image as a.gif which I believe is the correct way to do this.

Thank you for your patience.

Now both your upload and download sync speeds are underperforming?

Have you checked your microfilters for correct installation? Especially any filters you have on the DSL modem. If a dual jack filter is used on the DSL modem and the modem is plugged onto the wrong side (the phone side), you can see problems exactly like you are showing.

Well, I'm fortunate to say, the lousy speed problems are a thing of the past as of this morning.
I just had a Line/splice technician from AT&T out this morning. After a couple of hours of tracing, it was discovered that someone (previous tenant) did a really poor splice job under the house on one of the phone lines that lead from our master bedroom out to the main box. That single, crappy splice job was the culprit.
As soon as the tech did a proper splice my speeds went from 1.1-1.7 to 5.1Mbps! That's scorching fast after what it's been. Lol Apparently if you are within AT&T's 12,000ft cable reach, your connection speeds are better the closer you are.
Since I'm right on the edge he said I'll probably never get the full 6.0Mbps, but that's fine with me, the difference now is great, so I'm not complaining.

Thank you so much for your time and expertise. Because of you, I've learned a lot more about all of this stuff than I ever did before and I really appreciate it. I wish I had your grasp of this stuff.

Thank you again for all of your help.

Take care.
