 | Is GPON Good Enough For The Future? I remember reading somewhere from Dane that Sonic is using Adtran's GPON CPEs for homes. Assuming that if they share a lead fibre with upto 32 users, 100mbps is still feasible but how about those subscribing a 1gbps line will they have less contention such as 1:8 with the lead fibre?
Besides, is Google considering DWM PON? I can only see the benefit of DWM PON as a backhaul solution and not for end users i a long run
Reason:
1) It's unproven and cramming wavelengths over a single fiber can have serious complications.
2) Expensive white band(tunable ONTs/couplers) equipments
3) Unbundling for customers at L2(switch level) is impossible for PONs.
4) Difficult troubleshooting.
Go Active Ethernet for 1Gbps and beyond!
DWM PON can still be use for backhaul and feeding the Active Ethernet switch.
With a total of 40Gbps combined capacity, DWM PON could provide more than enough bandwidth even for a 32 ports Gigabit Ethernet Active Switch.
This makes more sense for a future proof design. |

On our network, most users opt for 100Mbps service, the $39.95 offering with one phone line, and a few take the $69.95 gigabit with two phone lines. We are never seeing congestion of the 2.4Gbps segment by the 32 users. Just hasn't been an issue.

 | I'm a current Fusion subscriber in the Sunset. How can I get in on this pilot deplayment? Looking out my window tonight I saw a truck exactly like the one in the pic doing something up on the pole- please let it be Sonic fiber!! |

All customers in the pilot region will be converted from Fusion copper to Fusion fiber once it's built. The initial pilot region can be seen in the attached diagram.

 | Thanks for sharing the map. So is the first deployment strictly within the heavy dashed lines? We are on on one of the blocks between 18th and 19th AVE that has an ----OH----OH----OH line extending past our location, which looks to maybe be "ZONE 3". So close |

So close Yes, this is the initial zone - it's a pilot, so it all depends upon city approval. We'll decide what to do subsequent to this afterward.
