| [Rant] USPS Sucks In Central Va. It happens to be the worst in the nation!
It's amazing what the audit brought out in the open. Something us in this area have known for years.
Unfortunately it is still going on to this day. Almost seems nothing, despite what the Postmaster General says, has been done.
Personally I have 2 packages stuck in Ca. now that were in this local office at one time back on the 12th. of this month. They were originally shipped out of Ohio. (Ohio to Virginia) The Sandstone office as usual routed the packages wrong and sent them to Ca. when they were practically in my mailbox back on the 12th. Its now the 22nd. and they are still in Ca. So much for getting a few Christmas things on time this year.
I hope they all crash and burn!

| reply to Robotics I just heard this morning Amazon is moving into Richmond with two distribution centers here. This post office cant handle what they have now. I still haven't got my package yet. It was sent out on the 12th. from Ohio, and I am in Virginia. (not that far away) -- Long you live and high you fly, and smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry, and all you touch and all you see, is all your life will ever be. |

| reply to Robotics I am beginning to hate the USPS and will probably begin to pay extra to ship stuff UPS or FedEx instead. I have some stuff ordered on Amazon that arrived here at the main post office in Denton on 12-31, but will not be delivered until the 5th (supposedly.) This stuff was shipped from their facility near Dallas on 12-29. WTF? |

Here is my track record. Note, when it was in Sandston, it should of gone straight to the Louisa PO. Bunch of damn losers working at that office. Also Richmond and Sandston are the same place...so it was their twice in its journey. -- Long you live and high you fly, and smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry, and all you touch and all you see, is all your life will ever be. |

said by »www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-p···33.story : The cutbacks wouldn't affect Express Mail, which guarantees overnight delivery, or Priority Mail, which takes about two to three days. Those services are more expensive than a first-class letter, which costs 44 cents, with a 1-cent increase slated for January.
Do you have anything that states Priority Mail service is being reduced? -- University of Southern California - Fight On! |

shortcktWatchen Das Blinken LightsPremium join:2000-12-05 Tenant Hell | reply to Robotics It's not just the packages and not just on the holidays. It seems that with the bad economy all their service has slowly gone downhill. They are also slow to adopt any technology which would speed things up, shorten the lines, and reduce errors. At two of my local post offices it took forever to get those blue self-service kiosk machines installed, and for years at one location the stamp vending machine was out of order more often than it worked. So instead of replacing it with a better one, they just took it out! Now you have to stand in line if you need stamps other than those dispensed by the kiosk. This isn't a small, rural satellite office either.
Two different times last year when I sent letters certified with return receipt, and they were not deliverable (the recipients were being coy and refused to sign for them) the letters sat somewhere for months gathering dust. I had to call the destination post offices and ask them to look for the letters and return them to me. Another time a certified letter sent to me was returned to the sender as undeliverable, because I never got a notice in my mailbox (with a lock) that a certified letter was waiting. When I found out I called my local post office and they swore up and down that they left notices.
A few years ago I bought some sticks of RAM from someone here on BBR. It was shipped to my (real USPS, not 3rd party) PO box and was mistakenly delivered to one of the adjacent boxes. The recipient opened the small padded envelope by cutting the end off, realized it wasn't for them, stuck a note inside apologizing for opening it, stapled the end shut and returned it to the post office. They accepted this incorrectly sealed envelope and reprocessed it, delivering it to my PO box a few days later!
And it goes on and on with bad delivery, dumping the mail on the ground instead of putting it in the boxes, etc. Even the stuff I send back marked Addressee Unknown--Return To Sender sometimes ends up back in my mailbox! I wanted to say something to our carrier about one problem, but took one look at him and remembered where the term going postal comes from.
It's a bureaucracy, and it's collapsing under it's own weight.
On the plus side, I think the postal service is still the only parcel delivery that allows mailing live baby chicks and bees Came across this when reading the official USPS manual, unless they did away with this in the last couple of years. |

| Ours is the same way now when it comes to buying stamps. The machines they used to have were out of order for the longest time...at least 4 months. Next thing you know they were boarded up with plywood. They go out to lunch (and are closed) between 12 to 1:30. So you cant take your lunch break to get anything done. By the time you get off work they are closed. So now you have to stand in line (on Saturday) for stamps and only one behind the counter, and others you can see walking around with coffee cups in hand and such.
I actually think going to the DMV is faster now. And they had a pretty bad rap there for the longest time. At least here in Va.
Guess you cant live without them (post office), but man they need some serious restructuring or something.
Love the part you said about one of their employees reminded you of where the term going postal came from lol You should see some of ours out here I can relate! -- Long you live and high you fly, and smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry, and all you touch and all you see, is all your life will ever be. |

shortcktWatchen Das Blinken LightsPremium join:2000-12-05 Tenant Hell | reply to ilikeme Around here in So. Calif. too. Most grocery stores sell stamps, but only the regular 1st class and only the whole book of 20.
On a side note, I see USPS has competition... I just received my health insurance member info book and related materials in a 9x12 envelope. The stamp on it shows US Postage Paid, UPS Mail Innovations, First Class Enclosed. According to the UPS website they can label, sort and do other handling on bulk mail and then transport it to the USPS destination facility where the USPS takes over for the "last mile." Because USPS is involved UPS says it can also deliver to PO boxes, and their costs are competitive with USPS. |
