Ozzie4 join:2006-10-02 Palatine, IL | [Line Problem] Constant dropping lately Hi there, trying to figure out what I can do about my current line issues. I picked line problem since I don't think it's the modem (2-wire), but that's possible.
Situation: Losing connection for a few seconds frequently. In typing this up, I actually lost connection once even, which was annoying. The loss of connection (or modem reset?) makes the modem connection turn red, and about 15-20s later I get connection back. Problem is I lose whatever I was doing online, like playing games, streaming movies, etc, as my connection dropped. I had this issue before and it simply went away, but I've noticed a slowdown recently, and now the constant drops are getting annoying. An hour ago, we counted 6 drops in that hour alone.
What steps should I take to try and identfy my issue and then correcting it? I did try removing phones from the lines and that did not change the problem. |

 | I had the same issue, is the 2wire a 2701HG-B? |

You say had...you figure out how to fix it? *looks hopeful* |

 | Seems to of gone away after getting the Westel/Netgear 7550, AT&T said lot of the "Broadband Link Errors" were the modem internal dropping the connection, but the modem never dropped the connecton with AT&T. |

| reply to Ozzie4 It could be dozens of things from a cable problem to a bad filter, to a modem to a port in the Central Office or a miriad of other things. If you have a NID you need to check it there and repost the results. --
If people realized what was really important, there would be a shortage of fishing poles. |

Edit - Any way of getting a new box at a discount? Perhaps if I called up and reupped service or something? I'm fairly certain it's the box. |

Disclaimer 1: When they are in the process of replacing the phone line, you will be without internet for that time.
For me this time, it was only a few mins, (prolly more but I wasn't home when they 1st arrive at the cross box)
Disclaimer 2: results will differs from person to person.
After they replace the phone line, my internet been more stable since then. Not one disconnect and my internet speed been more consistent thanks to at&t replacing my phone line.
You should give that a try and see if that helps. |

 | reply to Ozzie4 I am having intermittent dropping that has increased drastically as of late. I have replaced the DSL filter, the modem/router, and have had a tech check the outside line, the inside wiring and phone jack. This morning the first time I called at&t they said it was the circuit at the central office, but when they called back they stated no one could have run the line tests to come to this conclusion. So I call back and was told they repaired the problem remotely and would be monitoring the connection for the next week. It dropped again so I called back again and the tech said he'd create a ticket for them to run more tests and they would call back with the results in a half an hour...that was almost three hours ago and it dropped again in the mean time. I am sick of this. |

 | I had oodles of problems, went with modem, lines, phone, everything they said. Turned out to be the card in the box on the corner (don't know what it's called, maybe the HUB). When they changed it, it was fine. |

 | reply to Ozzie4 Seems like I'm having the same issue as you, except a lot more frequently.
See my video I posted here showing exactly how frequently it happens: »www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwBaWNzuuwE
I have tried everything, even had a technician come out and do everything they can.
1. Replaced the router. Didn't work now back to old. (From WNDR3700 to Cisco 2500 back to WNDR3700) 2. Tried different firmwares. Still didn't work. 3. Replaced modem. Didn't fix it. Now using the Speedstream 4100. -Technician came out- 4. Was able to replicate results using 3 different computers. 5. He swapped out cards down at our box. 6. They changed some different settings on their end.
All to which is no avail. Still having this issue. Been doing this for about 3 weeks. |
