| Is your Nintendo Wii buzzing? Here's my fix My Wii developed a nerve-wrecking buzz over the past year when loading a game CD into the drive slot. It first started subtle but progressed into something that could no longer be ignored.
Quick google search produced some very helpful videos on how to fix the buzz, but none solved the buzz on mine successfully.
However, tonight I report that I killed the buzz for good. It was a very simple fix, toughest part was locating the actual source.
Turns out the CD tray employs a metal arm with plastic spindle that holds the CD in place. The spindle was rubbing against the arm and causing the dreaded noise. Once I located where the spindle rubbed against the arm, I went to town with an eyeglasses screwdriver bending back the parts of the metal arm that were rubbing against the spindle. The end result; a game console that doesn't generate any unwanted noise.
The attached picture shows a close-up of the top portion of the CD tray of the Wii. The arrows in blue point to the part of the metal arm and plastic spindle that were rubbing against one another. Red arrow points where to place your thumb while bending back the metal arm in the area pointed with the green arrow. I got rid of the noise by bending back both sides of the metal arm.
Your Wii could be covered under warranty, and if so you don't need to go through this. But if not, get yourself a Tri-wing screwdriver in Amazon and give this a try.
