What would the best WIFI range booster be for me? I get 2 to 3 bars in the back rooms in the house. In the kitchen I get 4 to 5 bars. Here in the den I get all 5 bars. I can also go outside & sit in my swing & have 3 signal bars. The router I have is a Netgear wireless modem combo.
In the mean time try putting the combo modem up a little higher off the ground like about 5 to 6 feet or so. I have always thought that when its higher off the ground you get better range. I used to be able to pick up the signal on my personal router about 2 houses down which is pretty far considering it sits in my room that has no windows.
Just get a regular modem and a router. My Apple AirPort extreme is so powerful that I had to reduce the output because I could pick it up at my mother's crossing guard corner which is a block away from my house. My iPhone would pick it up but the signal was too weak so I would have no connectivity so I would switch the phone to 3G, but that shows the range of an Apple router. -- All of my CPE (including my EMTA) is customer owned. The only Comcast owned equipment in my house is the CableCards in the two TiVO boxes I own.
