Re: Actiontec MI424WR FIOS N Router REV. I

I agree that VZ techs go above and beyond for the customer. In the past, I have been a customer of the traditional cable TV companies too and IMO their techs are not on the same level as VZ's.

However, I feel that some of VZ's customer service policies are worst than the cable companies. For example, I can not swap my old Actiontec for a REV. I. I called VZ about it and they can not send me one via UPS and I can not get it exchanged at a local VZ store. I am told that I can buy one at one of VZ's sales website. I am a quad play customer and pay them a small fortune every month for the services that I have.

Why do I want a REV. I? For better wireless N speeds and gigabit LAN support. I have a few PCs and devices that are gigabit capable and would benefit from the faster speed.

I am interested in upgrading my Internet speed (i.e. spend even more $ every month), but unless I am upgrading to the 150 or 300 plan I will not get a REV. I router (via a truck roll to perform the necessary cat 5/6 wiring).

I think that you are very lucky in that your circumstances allowed you to get a REV. I at no additional cost.

I think you need to call again...This time maybe get a supervisor on the line and explain to them what you want and need..I have upgraded to from the 35/35 to the 75/35 plan and before this I had requested the I version router for the N capabilities and they had no problem sending a tech with the new router...I hope you get better results....

Just wondering, where are you located? The FiOS guys in NJ are always accommodating. A couple have even given me their private numbers should any situations arise. Just a suggestion - schedule a service call for some "issue" and during that call, see if you can get the tech to swap out the router. That strategy was actually suggested to me by a FiOS tech. Worked wonders too when I wanted one of the newer DVRs a couple years back.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try some more to convince VZ that a loyal customer is deserving of a free perk. I am located in Westchester county NY, by the way. I hope that the local VZ techs are as as accomodating as the ones in NJ.

I'm getting my internet upgraded to 150/65 tomorrow, is the technician going to have the Rev. I router or I have to request it?

The tech should have the rev. I on his truck. It is standard for all new installs and all upgrades over 100Mbps.

Thanks, in reference to the ONT and the BBU, are they replacing them too? I would like to have the ONT inside, can I ask him to install it inside?

The ONT and BBU are usually replaced as a pair.

Yes, you can ask the tech to install the ONT inside.
Whether he does so will depend on whether additional work is involved and also if there is enough slack fiber to reach to the inside installation spot. Usually this is not a problem as the excess fiber is wound on a slack spool behind the ONT.

Great! I hope I have a good experience tomorrow, anyhow I have always had good experiences with the technicians, it's the CSR's that scare me the most!

I upgraded from 35/35 to 75/35 and got absolutely nowhere when I called to ask for the new I router because "verizon doesn't support wireless speeds." I asked for the supervisor and nothing worked. Thankfully, a few days later my neighbor was getting fios installed and I walked over and asked the tech for the new router and he happily gave it to me, so it worked out in the end.

I save my information with 1password for Mac, it does the trick and it works with all the browsers. I believe they have a Windows version. This software is one of the best software for storing passwords and the developers are always updating and continuously working to make it really good. Try it!

Finally moved to an area with FiOS on 7/1, and had double play installed, yesterday, July 3rd. 75/75Mbit.

But I got a Rev. F router which is only giving me about 15/15 through the air unfortunately. The tech said they have zero new routers at their garage, and I might be able to get a new one if I call customer service--although from reading this thread it seems unlikely.

My plan was to call and say listen "If I sign up for a 2 year contract, will you send me the new device?". Will that work?

At least I got the 7232 DVR though.

But maybe I shouldn't complain though, I need simultaneous 5ghz and 2.4ghz N, can the Rev I do that? The latest Iphones and Kindle still only support 2.4ghz N, only thing holding me back from going 100% 5ghz.

I also have a couple nice firewall/UTM devices I would rather use (SonicWALL and palo Alto) that are much beefier than the actiontec device.

I'm a longtime FIOS customer (35/35) with a Rev C router. I was having an issue with my computer not being able to access the internet or pinging the router for 1-2 minutes after coming out of sleep.

I went to the Verizon store and swapped out the router. They gave me a Rev E which was brand new. I was kind of surprised that I didn't get an F. The new router did resolve my sleep issue.

I have had FiOS for quite a while - I have the Rev A router on the 35/35 speed. I was going to upgrade to the 150 speed but they cannot give it to me, 75 is the fastest I can get. So, I bit the bullet and ordered the Rev I. Router. It came today. One of the first things I noticed was that the two Ethernet Cables that came with it are marked as Cat 5 - Not Cat 5e or Cat 6. So, they are going int he trash.

Now I need to:
- write down all my settings
- configure the new router on my laptop while disconnected from the network
- replace the router and see if it works

It will be nice to have every wired device on my network support GB. I am wondering if the Rev I software is very different from the software on the Rev A.

I set the router up while connected to my computer - no problem. But then I plugged it in and it could not get an address from DHCP. I called Verizon but while on hold, I used my blackberry to search for DHCP FiOS Waiting. Voila. It took me to the FAQ at DSL Reports where I found out that I should have released the IP Address before switching. So, I replaced the old router, released the address, plugged in the new router, powered it on and everything worked.

DSL Reports comes through again.

People, Rev I IS the standard latest router now(new stock permitting) for ALL installations, every newer installation I've seen has one including that lady with the 20 Mbit plan I mentioned. You DO NOT need the 150 or higher plan to get one, this is the standard router now, I am absolutely certain. Anybody that says otherwise is wrong. I know it may not make sense for such a high-spec router but it's the truth. How you acquire it may vary however if you are already a Verizon subscriber.

Even a friend of mine who had an existing installation and a Rev C before somehow got upgraded to a Rev I and I'm positive his family can't afford the 150 plan.

I don't recall anyone suggesting in this thread lately that the Rev. I was difficult to obtain, or that it wasn't the router provided with new installs.
