Installed on my windows 7 64 bit machine latest version. Upon install under my admin. account. It has registry protection entries. I go in my limited account and it is blank. Is this by design or fault of the program? Btw. A new version has not been released in months. Thought I remember reading a new version coming in December. 64 bit as well.....? |

and or ask direct about limited accounts operation support @ WinPatrol.com

 | Yes and no...
WinPatrol provides a huge amount of registry protection with special focus on those areas which are also used by malware.
The "feature" that allows users to "custom" monitor any location they want is an option available to our PLUS supporters. I don't know of any other program which allows you to pick any reigstry location you want to monitor so I'm comfortable making it a premium feature. I also like the idea of this feature being available to folks who have a little experience instead of new users who might get in trouble.
The free version may be limited in this way but WinPatrol continues to monitor many dangerous locations and provides the tools to clean up crap without being tricked into paying.

KoRnGtL15Premium join:2007-01-04 Grants Pass, OR | Thanks for the reply. But that did not really answer my question. I clearly have plus and I would expect it to be there on install. Even under a limited account. Is it a bug, design or has simply been over looked? Maybe I just misunderstood the post. I apologize if so. |

Just checked my Win 7 32-bit netbook's Standard Account and it has the entries too. |

KoRnGtL15Premium join:2007-01-04 Grants Pass, OR | How would I add the entries that are in admin. under my standard accounts? I still do not know why Winpatrol done this. Must be a glitch or something that happens only to some people. |

KoRnGtL15Premium join:2007-01-04 Grants Pass, OR | reply to KoRnGtL15 Any help? I emailed winpatrol support about this problem. No response. I also have a netbook using windows 7 32 bit. Under the standard account. It has the entries. This has to be a windows 7 64 bit bug effecting some people like me. |

KoRnGtL15Premium join:2007-01-04 Grants Pass, OR | reply to KoRnGtL15 You know. I have been quiet and patient about this issue. I am now irritated with not getting help and no response over at WP through support. What is going on over there? I can't be the only one with this problem. Obviously it is a 64 bit issue for some users like myself. As I said before. My 32 bit machine is fine. |

Bill has been dealing with a lot of family-related health issues so his time has been limited, although things seem to be easing up a bit now. I suspect that when he responded to your post in December, he thought the problem was that you weren't a PLUS subscriber.
From various posts by Bill, I know the restrictions on Windows 7 64-bit operating systems have resulted in a lot of back-end changes in how WinPatrol works. It could very well be to the combination of 64-bit and limited user.
As a limited user, I don't believe that you can edit the registry, unless you run the regedit as an administrator. You can try the following:
Please copy/paste the lines in the code box below to Notepad:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\BillP Studios\WinPatrol\RegOptions]
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\System\\DisableRegistryTools"=dword:00000000
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\BillP Studios\\WinPatrol\\Options\\FileTypes"="1"
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\BillP Studios\\WinPatrol\\Class\\exefile"="%1 %*"
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Internet Explorer\\Download\\CheckExeSignatures"="yes"
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\System\\EnableInstallerDetection"=dword:00000001
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\Explorer\\NoTrayItemsDisplay"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\BillP Studios\WinPatrol\RegLock]
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\System\\DisableRegistryTools"=dword:00000001
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\BillP Studios\\WinPatrol\\Options\\FileTypes"=dword:00000001
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\BillP Studios\\WinPatrol\\Class\\exefile"=dword:00000001
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Internet Explorer\\Download\\CheckExeSignatures"=dword:00000000
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Run\\HostManager"=dword:00000000
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\System\\EnableInstallerDetection"=dword:00000000
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\Explorer\\NoTrayItemsDisplay"=dword:00000000
Save Save the file as "win18default.reg" (without quotation-marks) to your Desktop. NOTE: choose Save as type: All files
Right-click on the FixExe.reg file to run as Administrator, providing your Admin password. When Windows prompts whether or not you want to allow the data to be added to your computer, click on the Yes button.
If no joy, try manually adding the entries for registry monitoring. Instructions are included in my old blog post at Protection From DLL Vulnerability with WinPatrol PLUS.
Let me know if either works. If not, I'll see if I can reach Bill to redirect him to this topic.

Before doing any of the above, it occurred to me that you may want to first completely uninstall WinPatrol PLUS from the 64-bit computer and reinstall with the version update, 24.0.212.1, released January 30, 2012. (More info at »winpatrol.com/upgrade.html)

 | Slight correction: the newest version of WinPatrol (Plus) is 24.1.2012.0. It has just been released. |

KoRnGtL15Premium join:2007-01-04 Grants Pass, OR | reply to Corrine I followed that through a T. I have the same results. Registry protection entries are completely blank under standard accounts. This has to be a bug for some 64 bit users. Has WP not had other complaints or tested themselves to see this issue? I am also not to sure how clean that install was. Even with following all the directions. My plus name and code was still in there...

 CorrinePremium join:2004-08-27 kudos:2 | Hi, KoRnGtL15.
Ok, reinstall didn't work. Just to confirm, WinPatrol PLUS is installed on your limited user account, not the Admin account, right?
Were you able to run the regedit under your limited user account?
With the answers to those questions, I'll do my best to put it all in front of BillP to get his input. -- Microsoft MVP; Admin Council & Charter Member ASAP; Visit the Security Garden, Where Everything is Coming up Roses" |

KoRnGtL15Premium join:2007-01-04 Grants Pass, OR | I have 1 admin account. 2 standard and a guest account. I followed the instructions using the main Admin. account. WP plus is installed on all the accounts.
Navigate to the appropriate Application Data location, where %User% is the user name and delete the WinPatrol folder:
(Note: AppData is a hidden folder. See Show hidden files for instructions to display hidden files and folders.)
Windows XP -- C:\Documents and settings\%User%\Application Data Windows Vista and Windows 7 -- C:\Users\%User%\AppData\Roaming\
When I got to that part. I deleted the WP folder in each account as well. Just wanted to make a note of it to you. I did not bother running regedit from the limited account. Since it requires admin. rights to edit any thing I believe... |

 CorrinePremium join:2004-08-27 kudos:2 | Hi, KoRnGtL15.
Thank you.
I've sent Bill an e-mail. Hopefully he will have an opportunity soon to either reply to me or respond directly here.
Since HA NUT has the registry monitoring entries in his 64-bit limited account, I wonder if it is in any related to other security software you use.
What A/V, software firewall and anti-malware programs are installed? Is there anything unusual about the 2 standard accounts (i.e., parental controls, policies)?
BTW, for security reasons, it is generally recommended that the guest account be disabled. (See Turn the guest account on or off) -- Microsoft MVP; Admin Council & Charter Member ASAP; Visit the Security Garden, Where Everything is Coming up Roses" |
