Re: Winpatrol has no registry protection with limited account? Thank you for the follow up. Security wise. I am only running the latest version of Avira free and windows 7 firewall. I also have Superantispyware and Malwarebytes. But only use those for on demand scans. Nothing unusual with the standard accounts either... HA NUT said his is fine... But like I said. I think this is only effecting some users and most likely a hit/miss bug. I can duplicate this problem on 2 different 64 bit windows 7 machines. My 32 bit machine is fine.... |

1 edit | reply to KoRnGtL15 First let me say the title of this thread is extremely misleading because obviously WinPatrol monitors the registry and does a pretty good job of it.
I'm sorry if you've written to support@WinPatrol and we didn't connect in a quicker way. The install program will run the script that initializes these custom examples for only the one installing the software. The examples are not stored in the local machine registry due to come x64 contraints.
You'll note that I refer to these registry entries as "examples" or samples on how you can use the "custom" registry monitoring feature. Many of the examples don't even apply to all versions of Windows. Like the sample cookie filters the items in our custom registry list are samples meant to provide help so you can custome WinPatrol to monitor any location you want.
I'm glad to point out the custom feature because it sets WinPatrol apart from similar programs.
If you want the same samples on your limited user account you should sign in run the registry script "win18default.reg". This file is located in the Program Files (x86)( for you ) -> BillP Studios - WinPatrol folder.
If you need additional help Email me at support@winpatrol.com.
Thanks again, Bill |

Which basically means it is doing nothing with those entries correct? Just want to make sure I am understanding you.... I never meant to mislead people into the topic. But, I have also never read what you are explaining using WP and 64 bit system. Maybe I missed it on the WP site or release notes? |

angussfPremium join:2002-01-11 Tucson, AZ kudos:3 | reply to KoRnGtL15 I run WinXP using a limited user-level account, but I run WinPatrol for that account only, and it works fine. To do this, I used Aaron Margolis's MakeMeAdmin script to open a command prompt that allows me to elevate my user-level account to admin FOR THAT CMD PROMPT ONLY. Then in that elevated CMD window I start WinPatrol (and several other programs which need Admin rights under XP). All other programs I start normally, as a user-level user.
It shouldn't be very difficult to modify this script for Win7.
There is a difference between MakeMeAdmin and RunAs -- with MakeMeAdmin you're running as the same user, but with admin rights to the file system and registry, while with RunAs you're actually running as a different user, with a different USER registry hive and with a different home directory and TEMP area. -- Angus S-F GeoApps, Tucson, Arizona, USA »geoapps.com/ »www.linkedin.com/in/angussf »geoapps.blogspot.com/ |
