Unlocked Sidekick 2009 lx

Bought an unlocked Sidekick 2009 for a Christmas present. It powers up fine, put in a SIM that wasn't active to test the SIM port and this is where the crap begins. Upon boot up the phone immediately starts looking to register for data services, this is something we don't want... we want the bloody thing to make phone calls and texts. On the screen it states we can press the menu screen then select talk and text but when pressing the menu button it never comes up. How can this screen be bypassed for good?

I wish you luck. The old "Danger-Microsoft" Sidekicks are notorious for being buggy as hell and very hard to unlock and run properly. Now that the data backend for them has been shut off I honestly do not even know if it is worth it to try to get this running....even as a texting/calling device.

press the upper left menu button + L

this should bypass the registration bit and take you to the phone to be able to use it. If for any reason it ever goes back to registration, these same two buttons will bypass it again.

Make SURE you have all your contacts on the SIM card though. The older Danger Sidekicks were notorious for losing contacts if it did even a slight say... power disruption... It was a bit of a pita... And also as mentioned, it's also a PAIN to unlock... if at all (T-Mobile, by policy, wouldn't even unlock the bloody things.) This is kinda why I'm personally glad the new ones are android based and NOT a custom built OS. (Though, for it's time, the Sidekick was an awesome phone).

Try what Bahamut X said. The danger servers are offline.. Down.. never to be seen again. You will never get this activated and data services will never work. But if it works for texts or voice, go for it.

Thanks guys... got that message when using an old SIM when we first got the phone. Got my gf a new SIM, ported her number over and it's working. Surprisingly Net10 let go of the number in a timely manner.
