1 edit | For around 100 dollars, what eReader do you recommend I got some money for Christmas specifically to order an eReader tablet. For 100 bucks, or so, what is my best choice. I don't know much about them except that I want one, and it would be neat if it also did some tablet stuff.
Important: I want to be able to put non store books on it. If it is wireless, that is great. I can sacrifice color and 3G of course, considering price.
Are there any recommended sites or forums to guide me?
Thanks a million!
This may be more than I want to spend, but how is this:

Personally I bought a cheap, sub $100 ereader a few months back. This one in particular.
I can tell you unequivocably that it is a total piece of crap. The battery won't hold a charge for more than a few days.
The conclusion that I came to is that tablet/ereader design is still not ready for prime time. With decent Android tablets still selling in the $300 to $600 range and crappy ereaders that either don't do color, or lock you into proprietary formats, I'd say wait another year or so until tablets start selling in the commodity range like netbooks are a few years after their introduction.
Personally I won't look at another tablet or ereader until I can get iPad functionality for under $150. |

| reply to signmeuptoo I'd go with the Nook Simple Touch (and I know you so you can be a Nook Friend of mine )
Or the Sony - only because of the good opinions of the Calibre software author.
Or the one you referenced would probably be OK - I think that is the original Nook. An eBook with ePub compatibility can do what a book should.
The Kindle Fire or the Nook Tablet are over $200 but likely good if you want more than an eReader. Our daughter now has a Kindle Fire. I've not seen it in use yet.
The newer ones all have better battery life. The Nook Simple Touch has seemed really good for battery life. (Better than my Kobo Touch.

| reply to signmeuptoo Well, ordered the Nook BNRZ-100 wifi/3G product on fleabay. Paid just a little more than I hoped, but I only paid a small portion.
FastEddie, Oh if only I had that much, I'd have loved to get the nook color, I didn't know they sold refurbs like that! -- Join Teams Helix and Discovery.
