VMWare with 3D games?

I have a P8P67 Deluxe w/a core i7-2600K overclocked (at the moment) to 4GHz. I'm running Windows 7 x64.

I seem to have a game or two that have issues - big heavy 3D games (Dead Island for one; though I've read a lot of other random crashing issues with it) that crash out.

However on my 1st gen Core i7 system (A P6T deluxe system), they work fine under XP 32bit.

I was thinking of doing a dual boot on my new system, but before I go that far, I'm wondering how well games might work under VMWare 8. I think that VMWare 8 does support 3D acceleration and such now - though I'm off to read up on that.

Anyone have any experiences?

They wont run well. Better yet, there is definitely a problem if recent games are crashing under 3D environments. I'm thinking driver or hardware issue.

Sorry, I somewhat misspoke. The only one I'm having problems with is Dead Island, and it's one that a lot of people are having issues with. It's tough to say what's causing the problem - various people have conjectured various things, but unfortunately there's no real input from the publisher.

I guess I will give XP dual boot a shot and see how it goes. Either that or just forget playing this title
