 | 2001 mercury sable won,t start My 01 Sable was running rough the last 6 weeks. First started with starting cold run rough and sometimes stall out. Immediate ly start back up and run fine. Then start back up and run ok with some sluggish problems going uphill. Changed out the plugs and wires. no change. After about a week, got worse, then to the point of being afraid to drive it. Looked on forum and found out that intake manifold kit possible culprit. I changed out all the gaskets in kit and cleaned all three manifold pieces. Inspected for cracks because they are plastic, then removed all injectors, cleaned, replaced o-rings and reinstalled. Cranked over engine b-4 putting main manifold back on so i could see the fuel spray, which looks fine, even and steady in each cyl. (by the way it is a dual overhead cam eng.) put back together, checked for spark. No start!!! Cranks over just fine and even sounds like it wants to here and there. It at least ran before I replaced gasket set, now it won,t. help. d.j. |

You need to stop guessing and start diagnosing. Unfortunately, it's hard to do that over the Internet, but one thing you need to check is cylinder compression. Also you need to test fuel pressure with a gauge. How did you "clean" the injectors? That can't be done off the vehicle without a fairly expensive test bench.

A blow gun, carb cleaner, battery, and wire can do it, not as well but it will make a non working injector work (done it before, not sure how safe it is making sparks around carb cleaner you are blowing though a fuel injector but...)
Ya op needs to stop guessing, if the gasket was not the issue you waste all that time and money and maybe broke something else...
if you need to come here to ask what else to change, doing no prior diagnosis, I would be concerned about the car even being put back together correctly (no offence) Leave one thing disconnected, and you can be screwed.
You need to stop and start with the basics...
