| So my Pioneer deck got stolen today...fml My whole car got destroyed somewhere around my afternoon nap and dinner time because I left outside to grab my headphones which where in the car only to be introduced to this.
To say the least I am beyond pissed and worst part is that I don't have comprehensive on the policy.....should of known better but times are tough. Had to pay Safelite $328 to get the passenger side window replaced. As for the deck.....well I paid $850 for it a few years ago so that's a total loss. The biggest anger I have though is how badly he damaged the trim. The picture shows me just trying to put what still holds back together but the entire thing was ripped apart.
Has this happened to anyone before? I am sure it has but this really sucks hardcore. |

Doctor OldsI Need A Remedy For What's Ailing Me.Premium,VIP join:2001-04-19 1970 442 W30 kudos:18 | Father's Day weekend 1995 came out Sunday morning to find the top on my '87 Samurai cut in three places and the thief still could not reach the door handles inside so the scumbag had to unzip the back window to then crawl in through the rear to get to the front and unlock the doors. The thief then stole the Radio/CD Head Unit and the 7 Band EQ/Amplifier underneath by tearing out the bottom of the dash, plus ripping out the wiring along with the radio box. Around $1200 for the inside and another $400 for the top that they could have simply unzipped but decided to cut up ruining it totally and still couldn't get in. Never caught the SOB thief either. All out of pocket as I had liability coverage only. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

If they didn't work where do you go for a refund, Junkie Lane? I never lock my car to avoid the broken window! |

Lurch77Premium join:2001-11-22 Oconto, WI kudos:4 | reply to CylonRed My old Eclipse head unit had a neat feature. When power is removed, then restored, it required a "key CD" to work. If you didn't insert whatever CD I had set as the "key" it would sit there flashing "Insert Key CD". They might steal it, but at least I would have limited satisfaction knowing the next person to use it wouldn't find joy. Never understood why more manufacturers didn't do something similar that.
Though I do remember one time searching forever for the CD I set as the key after installing a new battery in the car. I drove around for a couple days with no radio until I gave up and bought a new CD. And of course I found the original CD shortly after buying the replacement. Murphy's law.
And I agree with the others, thieves should be shot on sight. |

nonymousPremium join:2003-09-08 Glendale, AZ | reply to michieru Did you have any car alarm? Is so not on or was it on and did no good? In a parking lot my alarm may do nothing but in my driveway it will. May even get a neighbor out also if it sounds like theirs. |

it's actually cheaper to just get plpd and f&t put on a car without collision, or getting full coverage. |

| reply to nonymous Have a factory car alarm but it did not go off. Anyway got the window replaced by safelite. Just need to head to the dealer to find a replacement trim and try to repair the outer trim with maybe a towel and rubber hammer. As for the deck, I will just save up and upgrade later. I will stay without a deck for a little bit, so the anger lingers and if I see this clown try to rob me again I will make sure it will be his final. |

| Well its only a suggestion but if you don't want to go without a radio for too long wal-mart sells some cheap ones that work. Back when my dad gave my bro a car it was a 92 ford escort which did not come with a radio because when it was with the previous owner it got stolen and the cables were all cut up. Being the nice brother that I am and the fact he drove from houston to corpus where I live every now and then to visit (at least a 4 hr drive) I felt the need to buy him a cheap cd stereo at wal-mart. The one I picked didn't cost much. I mean its only a suggestion and would at least put some tunes back in your car till you can get what you want. Also the one I picked may of been cheap (like $40 or so) but it did have cables off the back to hook up an amp to it. |

Sucks for your loss, but atleast it can all be replaced/fixed, the dash and trim will be the hardest part that will probably never be the same without replacing.

As mentioned before try a few local junk yards first as they would be cheaper than dealers I would think.
As for the thief, if you see him again call the cops, don't deal with it yourself. A car radio isn't worth the risk of getting injured or in trouble with the law yourself.
Also maybe look into a aftermarket alarm system or a head unit with anti-theft feature.
My brother had a friend who's car radio got stolen twice at his work. The third time he glued razor blades around it that were hidden from view. The next time he saw blood but the radio was still there. -- "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." -Jimi Hendrix |

 | reply to michieru Back in 97 I left my car at my workplace and went out with some friends. Came back the next morning and some a-hole took a screwdriver to the door lock, scratching the paint to hell, some how put a crescent shaped crack in the door, like maybe he kicked it in in anger, and he ripped out my cd player and took my cd book too, about 100+ cds and this was back in the day before I started using Napster =P so yea I paid for every one of those cds myself.
Never caught the guy. Insurance tried to screw me on the CD player, saying I never had one in the first place. Luckily I keep receipts and gave them an ass chewing for screwing over a customer. |

| reply to Fir_Na_Tine I already purchased the parts needed to fix the dash, and I just need to solder a wire on the A/C controller unit because at $365 price tag they can blow me. As for the thief, I understand the legal consequences especially these days where they can sue you for getting injured on your property. With all due respect though, if he is in my car and ripping it to pieces just to steal my head unit I will shoot him.
There was a incident on Miami Beach a few weeks ago of a couple who where in there car and where getting robbed at a gas station. The man surrendered everything yet they still shot him in the face, and as for his girlfriend, they shot her too.
It's not about materialistic thing's anymore around here and I am not going to get shot by a hood rat because I did not do anything. If anything this was a blow to my security, now I need to watch my back simply because of the valuables that I own. I would move to another neighborhood but that does not solve anything.
Gone to Afghanistan and back, I honestly feel safer on that FOB than I do back in my own home.
Anyway....sorry I am ranting and just releasing some frustration but this is just bullshit.
Moving forward I have decided that I will just have a CarPC. I will just purchase a double din touchscreen display with VGA input and purchase a ASUS eeePC or maybe create a Mini-ITX. Personally I am thinking of just getting a ASUS eeePC because it's just plug and play.
Purchase a nano bluetooth adapter for phone or see if they have on built in. Run microsoft street and maps in full screen and be done with it. The rest is just configuring and making it easy to just change between things. So I might run some kind of entertainment center software on it. I dunno I am still up in the air but the total repair bill for now is running me at around $520.67 and that was for the glass and the parts they damaged or completely broke off.
I already added comprehensive too my vehicle and got it inspected, so if this happens again I am at least covered and not in a total loss. In short lesson learned.
I was suppose to be debt free by February, now it's looking more like March or April.
Anyway happy new years everyone, take it easy.
