were the spruce trees in the background done in 3D? or is it just a background image?

and how come the spruce trees in the front are miniature?

The trees were modeled & textured in 3D (Vue Complete)...

The "trees" in front are supposed to be shrubs and bushes....

No photos were used in the image....

Cheers

Pretty good art work, vue666 See Profile, wondering, do you ever do night scenes, perhaps light snowy moonlit night scenes?

It's been an while but here is one I did about 5 years ago, "Winter's Night". It's more digital painting then 3D rendering. I wasn't overly pleased with it...

Thanks kindly Blake. It's fun and I find it relaxing unless my computer starts to bind up...

Upgrading to a I5-2500K helped the rendering process a lot. If only SSD drives would go down in price....

I'm a big fan of Canadian wildlife artist Robert Bateman

I also love the work of Norman Rockwell, fantasy artist Frank Frazetta, Dutch painter B. C. Koekkoek, fantasy artist husband & wife team of Boris Vallejo & Julie Bell and hot rod artist Tom Fritz...

Anyone interested in 3D software may want to try the trial version of Vue or the PLE (personal learning edition) version of Vue...

Hey Mr Vue. I am on Mac.

On the classic, I had a product called Extreme 3D from Macromedia. Adobe abandonned that product when they bought Macromedia. Someone recommended Cheetah. Do you have recommedatiosn for an affordable product ?

I've heard Cheetah 3D (available only for MAC) is quite good but I have no first hand experience with it...

For box modeling you can't beat Wings3D and best of all it's FREE. There's a Windows, MAC & Linux versions available....

For rendering I would look at Blender (also free) and it comes in Windows, MAC & Linux versions... You can also model in Blender but I find it's interface confusing....

I use Vue Complete ver 10 and it comes in both MAC & Windows versions. But it's expensive. E-onsoftware through their affiliate Cornucopia3D offer a lighter version of Vue Free. It's called Vue Pioneer. Both MAC & Windows versions are available...

I would also look at DAZ Studio. There is a free version as well as a MAC version...

I'm a beginner with Blender and I find the interface OK. Before that I used for a while a real 3D CAD/CAE software. I'm missing in Blender the ability to set the "current point" via numeric coordinates for "precision modeling", but for "look good" it's good enough and pretty fast too.

I've heard good things about MOI (Moment of Inspiration), it's aimed at CAD users wanting to do 3D modeling with nurbs....

»moi3d.com/

For inorganic 3D modeling I use Wings3D, Hexagon3D ver 2, Google Sketchup (free version).

There is a MAC version of Hexagon3D... I purchased Hexagon when DAZ had it on-sale a few years ago for $25.00
»www.daz3d.com/i/products/hexagon···rements?

For organics I use Scupltris (free from ZBrush publishers)

And 3DCoat ver 3.5

You can also add Sculptris to the list of MAC software. And it is free....

Is that the older version of Blender or the new (2.5?) with the updated interface?
