BIG bPremium join:2002-11-23 Connersville, IN | [DIRECTV] DirecTV won't install service for me ! I have owned my home for over 7 years.. For a shotr time about 4 years ago .. I moved due to work and let my sister rent my home for about 6 months. I moved back in and she moved out. She had DirecTV installed under her name when she was here.
Fast forward 4 years to yesterday.. I called DirecTV and setup service to be installed this Saturday. I called back today to confim the install and was transferred to another department because of an issue with my order.
I find out that my sister did not pay her bill and since she was a relative of mine it is against their policy to allow me to have service..
I guess I can understand their concern but is there really no way around this at all ? I pay my bills on time and have good credit ..
Is there a place to complain to corporate or anything ? I asked to speak to a supervisor but heard the same story from them about how it is against their policy. They sure didn't have any issue with taking money out of my account for their DVR that I ordered.
Any ideas ? -- To be continued ..... |

| Hmm... I guess there isn't anything illegal about them refusing service to you based on that ground. However, the fact that the bill was under your sister's name doesn't make much business sense to me. Let them setup service in your name and if you don't/can't make payments, then they can shut you off. They usually do a credit check too. If your credit is good, again, doesn't make much business sense on part of Directv. Alas, sometimes things just don't make sense. |

| reply to BIG b Directv is in the business of getting their unpaid bills by all means necessary, short of driving to you and knocking on your door. That relative policy is a lie/trick to get you to pay someone elses bill. You should have never said that was your sister and just explained it was a tenant that no longer lives there. If you get no help, you should call back and say the tenant is not your sister. Make up a story they fled and did not pay you rent either and now you need directv service there for yourself. Just say previous phone reps must have lied if ther are notes on the account to harrass you about your sister.
Anyone that has a new cell phone number knows all about directv. It took 3 numbers for my work cell phone before I got one that was not on directv collections list. They would call just about every 3 hours and could care less that they are calling a work line that you just received.
Anyways did that worker reply to your email? -- ...brought to you by Carl's Jr. |

grohgregDunno. Ask The Chief join:2001-07-05 Dawson Springs, KY | reply to BIG b Perhaps this is not related to your relationship at all. I just can't feature how one can be liable for the debts of relatives. Husband/wife/kids, yes. But a sister? You did however share a service address temporarily. So what are the chances they might be associating the service address with the past due account, rather than the actual name at the billing address? Not that this does anything to fix the problem, but it may go a ways in explaining why it looks like they're going after you - to settle her arrears.
