Verizon and Sim Cards Question

Years ago when I use to have Cingular phones had a sim card which you could just switch to phones and it would work. I now have Verizon and Verizon doesn't have sim cards. If I buy a new phone how do I transfer my phone service to that phone with Verizon.

You have to contact Verizon to get it done. If you go to a Verizon Store, they will sell you a phone and take care of everything for you.

If you want to be able to buy phones and transfer SIM cards on your own, you need to have service from AT&T or T-Mobile.

Ah, now if I buy a phone that is not Verizon how is that done then? I guess that would be my real question.

Unless the phone is the correct type to work on the Verizon network, it can't be done.

AT&T and T-Mobile use the same type of network. As long as the phones are unlocked, you can swap SIM cards and use them on either network with no issues.

Verizon uses a different type of network, and does not utilize SIM cards. If you get a phone, you have to make sure it is compatible with the Verizon network. You then have to contact Verizon and register the phone with them so it will function on their network. The easiest way to do this is to get a phone from a Verizon store.

Cingular digital handsets (GSM) were NOT compatible with Verizon digital ones (CDMA).

Not anymore. I am a serial cell phone buyer and have had tmobile for years and enjoyed just swapping sim cards out and no call to tmobile required. While with verizon it was always cdma based and you had to call and make sure the previous owner of the phone was able to pay the bill. The other day i bought a verizon branded droid bionic on craigslist popped in my sim card and what a surprise the phone worked right away. No calls to verizon needed. My understanding is that if you get a 4gLTE verizon phone they all use sim cards and as a result can be swapped out. Only 4gLTE..

yes cdma networks who have since upgraded to 4G have to offer sim cards, as the 4G network works on umts technology, its the same technolgy at&t and tmobile 3g and 4g netorks use
