 | How to Bridge a Motorola SBG6580 It seems among BHN techs and customers alike there is confusion regarding if and how to put a Motorola SBG6580 into Bridge Mode.
In truth there is one single setting you need to tick, reboot, it's in Bridge Mode.
Here is how:
1.Connect your computer to one of the Ethernet ports.
2. Open a browser. Go to »192.168.0.1 to bring up the login screen. Enter the user name and password as follows: User name admin password motorola
3. Across the top click on "Advanced".
4. **In the resulting screen, place a checkmark in the option called. "Rg PassThrough"
5.Apply and save the setting and reboot the Motorola.
Done! You are Bridged.
-----------------------------
The Motorola is now functioning as a pure modem. You can can hook up a single router or multiple routers and each will pull a public IP... depending on how many IP addresses you purchased from your cable provider.
My uneducated guess: By "Rg" Motorola is using this as an abbreviation for "Cable" As in most coaxial cable is called RG6 or RG59 So they are borrowing the RG to mean "Cable" Thus giving you, "Rg PassThrough" = "Cable PassThrough"
Which essentially is bridge mode |

That won't work for BHN customers but thanks for sharing anyway.
For those of you with BHN provided Surfboard modems to bridge them simply call your local office. If you are in the Tampa market ask for the PDS group. Everywhere else your local High Speed office will be able to assist with this.

 | Mine was a BHN provided Motorola SBG6580 The BHN tech brought it to house after signing up for Lightning I followed the procedure above It's been working for just about one year.
I didn't mean to create a fuss. Just trying to help
-If you are saying the Motos currently being given to customers lack this feature or somehow disallow access to the interface, then yeah, call PD. |

There are two types of SB that we provide for D3. One will allow you access via the method you provided above and one will require a custom password that you were provided at install....this generally means you will need to call in for it since the majority of people never keep their paperwork.
The Ubee and the SMC must require that you call in to have them properly bridged...

Also for the UBEE D3 modem if its the same one Time Warner uses for Road Runner there is a hidden link that can be seen with the master login but can still be accessed with the user login as long as you got the link. |

Yep. Yep.
On the SBG6580 I've heard two methods from BHN techs
One is to disable wireless then disable DHCP, then disable NAPT. This method does work. What I psoted above is simply a quicker one click way to accomplish the same thing
The other I have heard is to add the router MAC to the "PassTrhough MAC" setting. And I think it's this method that is raising all the confusion. Using this second method, the Moto itself pulls a public IP, then it forwards that same public IP to the associated router. This is therefore obviously not true bridge mode.
Either the method I outlined or the one you mentioned would be the way to get it into full bridge mode.
Still... All this still coming from the point of view of my modem. If when I got service they were giving out retail modems, then I'm not sure what to say to others. |

 | reply to Mr Steveo I'm wondering, would putting my routers mac address in the DMZ be beneficial at all, even though it is in bridged mode already (Rg passthrough enabled), also bhn tech had me disable NAPT and wireless primary network already... |

1 edit | said by BHNtechXpert:Nope...for all intents the SB is now nothing more than a modem all the routing features are disabled and your router is in control. awesome, just wanted to be sure... I was asking mainly cause I had some issues... I had to disable dhcp before it would actually work (even though rg passthrough and NAPT were already enabled and disabled respectively) not sure why, but if anyone has issues, just make sure NAPT = disabled, rg passthrough = ENABLED (ticked), and DHCP = disabled. also... I had no problem receiving the router login password from BHN, just make sure you tell the first tech you need your router to be in bridged mode and can't log in to do so. otherwise, I think just hard resetting will net you the same results and save you a phone call...
edit: if you decide to go the "hard reset" route, disconnect the rg6 from the modem, hook pc directly to port 1 and then with power connected hold the reset button for 30+ seconds, it didn't seem to reset anything with the power disconnected... I thought that was a little strange, then the login/pass combo is admin/motorola, once the 3 items are enabled/disabled respectively, then disconnect power, hook rg6 back up, plug pc cat5/6 back into 3rd party router, and hook router WAN back up to BHN modem/router and plug power back in, once the lights are where they should be the only other thing you may have to/want to do is reset your 3rd party router... now you should be set... just go get a VPN service and say goodbye to BHN throttled torrents (legal ones of course) |

There is no problem with you self bridging on the SB. The Ubee and the SMC (for those of us who still have them) are a different story. -- ~All truth goes through three phases.
