zbone1 join:2011-12-29 Springfield, MO | [MO] Cable Modem Signal Acquired Changing 1. Connection is interrupted frequently when downloading at high speeds. I download a linux distro and my connection becomes interrupted. I will look at my graph or the program and see my download speed is resetting every 30 seconds or so. Then it quickly spikes back up to 20-Mbps. The plan I am paying for is 20/2 so I am not complaining on the speeds. I went into the modem log and noticed that each time my download/mutliplayer game becomes interrupted, my forward path "signal acquired at" has changed. One moment it was at 111MHz the next it's at 129. I am guessing this could be a problem and why my download resets/interrupts.
2. Currently going straight from the wall to the modem. I bypassed my router and splitter I was using.
3. RCA DCM425

6. Ran the line quality test and it gave me a warning stating I am 48MS to my first hop. Could this be related to my problem?
7. Windows 7 64bit
8. It usually only occurs when downloading heavy amounts of data and can make it happen anytime I am downloading at very fast speeds. The signal will just keep changing every 30 seconds or so. Sometimes it occurs in a multiplayer game.
9. Disabled windows firewall for testing purposes only and took the router out of play as well. Also tested this on 2 other desktops and a laptop and had the same results. Motherboard network drivers are the most recent and latest windows updates are installed.
10. Basically I am just wanting some advice on why my acquired signal is changing so often when heavy downloading happens. I am not sure if this is normal for it to change so much. I tried to give as much information as possible, if anymore information is needed I can happily retrieve it. |

 | reply to zbone1 You probably need a DOCSIS 3 modem. |

zbone1 join:2011-12-29 Springfield, MO | You might be right, but I did limit my download speed to around 10Mbps (half of what i'm suppose to have) and the problem still occurred. |

zbone1 join:2011-12-29 Springfield, MO | reply to zbone1 Just wanted to mark this as solved. My first docsis 3 modem I purchased from eBay did have problems and it could of been defective as I still had the same problems occurring. Mediacom brought me a different docsis 3 modem and everything is working correctly. The modem has bonded to four different channels and never drops connection, at least for a couple days it hasn't. I wanted to thank mediacom Chad for the fast responses and investigating into this issue even deeper than the mediacom tech's would. I am receiving speeds of around 28/2.5 when i'm only paying for 20/2 so I can thank mediacom for the extra speeds as I'll take an extra 8meg for free any day of the week lol... Thanks again for the help everyone. |
