I purchased the game over the weekend and rolled a ruplic trooper commando on a west coast PVP server called something with an "R" mind prison.

I'm only level 12, but I've yet to see a anyone in world PVP combat while leveling. When do I need to start looking over my shoulder?

Hey sail, you and I are on the same server, Rakata Mind Prison (there's actually a quest on tatooine that explains what that is). Like I H8 Spam said, Tatooine is the first world that has some world PVP. I'm on Alderaan now and starting to see some blatant gankers, level 50's hanging out around the spaceport griefing the level 30s. It's not too bad though. If you see a rotund gunslinger named Bionicrod say hi!

Not at level 12. It's on the 3rd tier of the gunnery tree.

Plus it's the most boring animated move I've seen in the entire game... so cheesy. I have to mix in some of my other skill buttons just to keep from dozing off during combat.

FWIW, I find SWTOR to be a lot like playing a console RPG. But there is a disconnect in the game. Maybe it's the fact that my toon was given a voice... or that there are so many animations for things I have no control over... and those animations sometimes delay the things I'm trying to do... or how robotic my toon's movements are (despite how "realistically rendered" theirs skins are)... but after a session of SWTOR... I actually breath a sigh of relief when I log onto my WoW toons. While I can't quantify it any better than what others have said... there is something about the movement and flow to my characters in WoW that is just... nice. It could be the mind's natural resistance to change... but I don't know. Anyway... that's my take on the leveling experience.

As for max level... i've got a long way to go.

If they left because WoW was stale why would they pay money to return to the same stale content? That makes as much sense as bush math. If SWTOR can't compete to hold people at end game they will find something else new like D3 more then likely given the original reason why they left WoW is still valid. Can you elaborate on why anyone would quit for a specific reason only to return without the reason being resolved? I'd never do that nor would most people I know. That falls under:

Allow me to answer. They left because they thought SWTOR was a step up not the same old.

They go back because WoW's community took years to build, they have invested a lot of time in to their toons, building relationships with others, etc... Why would they stick around for the same old thing?

At least that's my opinion. I haven't touched WoW since Cata release so this isn't coming from me.

We invested a ton of time and built relationships in UO, EQ, and FFXI. If that were the case we'd never leave the first MMO we played. No MMO has been a real upgrade just minor steps up. Not worth moving if relationships and time invested were an issue.

Plus Full Auto when proc'ed, High Impact Bolt when you have 5 Charged Bolts, and Demo Round when you have 5 stacks of Grav debuff.

Vanilla WoW was a huge improvement over EQ... for nearly all players other than the god-killing power raiders. Also, EQ player base took a hit when sony created EQII and it turned out kinda "Rift like" in its player response. So sony basically mismanaged EQ (they even had server merges before EQII and WoW came out IIRC. So totally mismanaged by Sony.

There is a lot of desire for "something new" in the gaming community. SWTOR is new, and interesting, and they got a lot of things "right". But once the "fresh car scent" has worn off, people may want to go back to WoW for the gameplay and community that remained. They will still get a shot at something "new" in WoW with Mists of Panderia. That is something Bioware will need to keep tabs on... and plan accordingly. What will SWTOR have "new" to compete with Panda Express?

I hope SWTOR's gameplay improves... that's the biggest thing I see lacking when compared to WoW.

They certianly have an innovative customer support. Iv'e made 5 support tickets in game and get an automated responce that has nothing to do with the problem I need help with. Then the tickets are closed without any help at all.
I know that EA is in charge of the support but that doesnt matter to me, no support is no support. I still love the game though.

I will not be going back to wow as I am so sick of that game.
My guild bailed when rift came out and the pop on my server is very depleted. There is no way in hell I would pay for server xfer.

Well, after buying the game over my Christmas Holiday I can say a few things about how the game feels. My previous experiences with MMO's have been WoW and SW:G.

First, a few gripes.

1) I dont know what it is, but everything feels too dang SMALL! In WoW I had never Tab-Targeted. Now it seems thats all I am doing in TOR. Everything seems so insignificant and blends in with everything else, its difficult to click a specific mob or player when they are in a pack, and its hard to tell who you even have selected sometimes in a big fight.

2) Sometimes I have no idea what my character is doing. Ill hit the button for Shadowstrike and my guy will look like he is in an invisible tug of war match. I would rather my character scratch his ass than have all those animations. When I hit Shadowstrike all I want to see are numbers, prefereablly big ones.

3) Flashpoints and cutscenes. For god sakes, this got annoying in the first 15 seconds. I think the cut scenes are cool for the individual classes progression and when you are just questing, but personally, I dont give two shits. I care about orange and blue items that give me +to this and that. I care about my experience bar moving forward. I dont care about how Twlanda Twi'lek needs money for a new set of tits.

4) Can we get a WoW style city map, please?

So, although minor, these set of gripes do irritate me enough that I do find myself getting frustrated with the game quite often. But, aside from these issues, I have been having a good time. The PvP is fresh and intuitive. I like how you queue for a Warzone and can get any of the different varieties of PvP, not just whatever is popular at the moment.

The flashpoint that I did was the first one for Republic, and it was okay I guess. It didn't have that Deadmines feeling to it though, it just felt bland and uninteresting. I know it was supposed to be on a ship, rather, two ships, but damned if I could tell the difference of one from the other.

This may have something to do with the two shits you don't give about the cutscenes.

Meaning that I would have known if I was on a different ship if I had paid attention to the cut scenes?

Well I did. Without watching them. However, they looked exactly the same. Grey and rampy.

If it's a similar dungeon to the first Imperial one (Black Talon), you take over a friendly ship for military purposes, chase down a much more powerful enemy ship, fight off invaders, then board a shuttle for the enemy ship, fight your way to your target, capture or kill him, and then fly back to your own and hyperjump out of there.

I don't know how much you'd get of that if you spacebar through cutscenes.

I mean, you want a different feeling to a spaceship likely made by the same company? This isn't Borg vs. Enterprise here... watch the cutscenes, it's what makes Bioware games great.

But in flashpoints, you have to wait for your companions to finish before you can move on with the quest, and if they dont spacebar, your boned.

Actually, I meant the whole reason for doing the instance to begin with. You know, the story behind it?

Ah yes, but wait; not important to you. Collect your loot and continue on.

Well, alot of people do enjoy the cut scenes. But don't worry to much... there are quite a few more flash points that are alot lighter on story, and more about pew pew. That first one is the most story intense. The rest have maybe just one or two quick LS/DS choices and little to no dialog... so you'll be able to skip the story heavy ones if you like.

I'm also pretty sure as the game is out longer, more people will spacebar thourgh cut scene's if they've seen them a number of times. For now though it's new and shiney so the people that want to see are the majority. Get up and get a coke? Little break in the action.

Yeah... difference is it's a multiplayer game. If you're PuGGing, you're gonna have to accept the fact that people want to play differently then you do.

If you don't like how they play /ignore, if you do like how they play add friend.
