 | [DIRECTV] *NON* HD DVR Question Directv installer will be setting me up on Monday with 3 rooms. (1) Non HD dvr and (2) regular receivers. My question is.... Is there any non dvr receiver I should especially ask for? I know there are a number of different HD dvrs that have different issues, like getting hot, channels taking long to change, pixelations, etc. and I'm looking to stay away from any potential problems with mine. |

| reply to handsoftime There are 3 possibilities of what you will get... an new R16, which is a pretty standard, straight-forward DVR, black in color (and IS SWiM compatible); a refurb'd R15 which varies in dimensions between series, silver in color and is NOT SWiM compatible; or an R22 which is pretty much the same as an HR22... same dimensions, RF capability built in, has HD outputs already, and is SWiM AND MRV compatible.
The R22 came out in limited supply through limited markets though, and I have only seen refurb's in this area, so you more than likely will get an R16. The R16 has improved quite a bit with response times, heating up, etc... -- Words of advice for today... "Be Happy, Drink Coffee, Drive Safe!" |

| DECA is a DirecTV Ethernet to Coax Adapter... used to connect compatible HD DVR's and HD's together over a SWiM setup so that they all "see" each other and can access each other. It also allows your existing internet to be inserted into your SWiM network over coax.
The SWiM is Single Wire intergrated Multi-switch, meaning one line from the LNB and one line to every receiver (including DVR's) with a power inserter fed into the mix to power the whole system. DTV is able to put 8 SWiM channels onto one piece of coax so it can support up to 4 DVR's one one dish, over one wire each, without additional equipment. -- Words of advice for today...
