 | reply to gehx Keep the V2 as it will do IPv6 when that becomes the standard. |

|
 | reply to Parth I didn't see it listed as a feature of V1 but did see it listed for V2 so I made an assumption that V1 doesn't support it. Sounds like I was wrong. Thanks. |

 | OK. Thanks for the clarification. |

Looking back on this: v1: slower USB, ability to install Tomato or DD-WRT (either will 'fix' the WPS flaw). v2: faster USB, can't install Tomato or DD-WRT currently, no way to fix WPS until Linksys releases a new firmware.
Kind of funny that unless you get the old version there is no way to protect yourself from your network getting broken into in ~6 hours with 1 simple tool. The E4200 is the Linksys flagship right (v2) and it cannot take an open source firmware and is really un-secure with the WPS flaw. When you can't get a v1 anymore, how could anyone buy a v2? I mean I feel bad for normal people out there that buy the E4200 with no clue about what's going on (90+% of home users). It shouldn't be this difficult where you have to be a nerd and do a lot of reading and learning just so an average moron neighbor can't break into your router with very little effort.
I've been reading non-stop and I'm about to try and install the latest version of Toastman Tomato (.2494). I've never had a reason to care about custom firmwares until this WPS thing hit. |

***EDIT***
Just read about it through google. Wow. Pretty serious. A possible fix. Disable wireless access to the admin. gui? I have always had that disabled. The only way to get into the router page is using a wired connection.... |

The admin GUI access has nothing to do with WPS.

I just got done installing Tomato, it went pretty smooth and everything is working. I guess the tips I would have would be: -You don't need to worry about the 30/30/30 reset crap or disconnecting lan cables -By default Tomato has DHCP turned off. -Tomato default User name & Pass is: Root/Admin -I did have to use the reset button after the flash (held it for only 5 seconds). Before that it would not accept the name/password. |

KoRnGtL15Premium join:2007-01-04 Grants Pass, OR | You say it has nothing to do with it. But, if they cant get in the gui do to it being disabled with wireless access. How can it work? Has anyone actually tested this to see if they can still get through it? Tomato is good stuff. I use to have it on my old Linksys WRT54GL.

I got a V2 as well I got an e4200 at one of the big office stores for 140 bucks. Assumed it to be V1. I noticed the firmware was 2.xx.xx. I looked on bottom of router and sure enough, I got a v2 as well. |
