 | [General] FreePhoneLine.ca becomes Fongo!... It might be that the free ride with FreePhoneLine.ca is soon over. This is the e-mail I received from FPL on the 29th. The new company motto on »fongo.ca/ or »fongo.com/ is "Talk freely to the world!", but it says nothing about free service.
Well, it was good while it lasted.
"Dear Freephoneline Subscriber,
We are emailing you to inform you of an important change.
We are in the midst of transitioning our Freephoneline name to Fongo. During this transition, you may see both of these names.
This is an exciting time because we will be bringing you new features and services. Stay tuned for more information!
Cher client Freephoneline,

| The domain name was registered back in 2004 to Jody Schnarr, who of course is president of the parent company Fibernetics.
[OT: The way you Canadians spell "fibre" I never understood why the company isn't called "Fibrenetics".]
Anyhoo, here is an old article on Mr. Schnarr that has some interesting details of things....

Definitely the same, it says "We are a spin-off of Fibernetics". |

 | reply to Michael9009 All the press releases I have read seem to indicate things will stay free. I have been keeping an eye on them as I use freephoneline.ca as my only phone number. The name freephoneline.ca is a bit on the cheezy side you have to admit! I have tried to convince many people the service is legit but the name has held them back. Let just hope they can keep up with demand with a catchy new name!
happy new year! |

Reminds me of the 1960's cartoon series, "King Leonardo and his Short Subjects", in which a lion named Leonardo ruled over the fictional African nation of "Bongo Congo". Would be very politically incorrect today....
....but Sega released an arcade game called "Congo Bongo" in 1983. |

Fongo is partnered with Dell and together they make up Dell Voice which was release early yesterday morning. It's a smartphone SIP application combined with the previous residential VOIP service of 'freephoneline.ca'; essentially, you get all the same functionality of freephoneline.ca with the added bonus of a smartphone app...
Before anyone jumps all over me, know that I work for Fibernetics... I'm not here to promote anything, I'm here because I love telecom as much as anyone else on here, nor do I really care for backtalk just because I work for them.. Also know the 'spammer' you've heard about going bat-crap crazy on this and other forums has been... reassigned. |

I never heard the term before, but the link you provided shows that the number 1 usage is "To call a friend using free long distance instead of getting charged."
Oh, and I had Crab Mofongo in San Juan Puerto Rico last Christmas. Very tasty. |
