Raminto join:2006-02-28 Whitehorse, YT 1 edit | [Installer] Feedhorn Question I'm just about to assemble a Ka system, 1.2 meter, 9200 Modem. The feedhorn out of the box has a yellow seal on the stem - see picture. My question: Is this just a dust cover that should be removed or is it kind of a filter that has to stay there? Thanks for an answer - Raminto Edit: Happy New Year! -- dw7000/.98m/2watt/Horizon1/1381/256k4/5 /xp sp2/desktop compaq 6330CA/linksys wireless/thinkpad xp pro/Toughbook CF-28 xp pro |

grohgregDunno. Ask The Chief join:2001-07-05 Dawson Springs, KY 1 edit | This has been argued about on previous generation feedhorns as well. They've been on there since back in the old Chinon days. I maintain that if it was a shipping cover to be removed at installation time, it wouldn't be yellow (some were amber). I mean, it would be a lot cheaper just to put the same stuff over the waveguide opening that you see currently covering the Mylar (dish) side. I believe it is a RF-transparent sunscreen/filter that reduces the potential for condensation in the waveguide.

Raminto join:2006-02-28 Whitehorse, YT | Yes it is interesting. The pointing will be almost the same as Ku Band - no squinter - no DAPT and even no skew and crosspole test needed and I think I will be able to use your nice PC-OPI. -- dw7000/.98m/2watt/Horizon1/1381/256k4/5 /xp sp2/desktop compaq 6330CA/linksys wireless/thinkpad xp pro/Toughbook CF-28 xp pro |

dbirdmanPremium,MVM join:2003-07-07 Eureka, CA kudos:5 | I have heard that the firmware in the 9200 is more like the 7000 than the 9000, but that the modem itself outperforms either of those. I'm hearing that FAP is like 7000 FAP, and hnFAPalert works fine, apparently in the 7000 mode. | reply to Raminto Raminto,
you are wrong about your understanding of the pointing procedure. contact your installation support.
you will need to follow the same squinting procedure as when installing a regular HN9000 on HNS' Spaceway service (but with different satellite parameters obviously).
this will require a DAPT tool and the correct Squinting tool based on the outdoor equipment you are installing. |

Just like the 7000's - even easier: No crosspole needed. System up and running. Edit: This install was for a VAR with Hughes equipment and the config file was not from Hughes. -- dw7000/.98m/2watt/Horizon1/1381/256k4/5 /xp sp2/desktop compaq 6330CA/linksys wireless/thinkpad xp pro/Toughbook CF-28 xp pro |

Raminto join:2006-02-28 Whitehorse, YT | reply to dbirdman Installed today: Yes, it is like the 7000 and the PC-OPI worked fine. Also the hnFAP installed on my installer laptop showed the remaining MB's in 7000 mode. As for the refill behavior I cannot tell. -- dw7000/.98m/2watt/Horizon1/1381/256k4/5 /xp sp2/desktop compaq 6330CA/linksys wireless/thinkpad xp pro/Toughbook CF-28 xp pro |

and the fact that the system is online is more good luck than good management. it is clear to me you haven't read the HN9200 Installation Guide.
You did the equivalent of skipping the ACP portion of registering a HN7000S. you have not correctly peaked your system.
As i said previously, contact your installation support for correct instructions. otherwise, be prepared for potential ongoing transmit and inroute related issues. not to mention your transmitter may get disabled for causing interference. |

Raminto join:2006-02-28 Whitehorse, YT | Maybe we talk about two different things: a) a 9200 system on spaceway from Hughes b) a 9200 system on Anik F2 from a Canadian provider using Hughes equipment but is doing their own configuration on the modem.
I'm talking about b) and I followed the instructions provided by the Canadian provider.
I think the 9200 can be configured in so many ways and we are not aware of all the combinations yet. -- dw7000/.98m/2watt/Horizon1/1381/256k4/5 /xp sp2/desktop compaq 6330CA/linksys wireless/thinkpad xp pro/Toughbook CF-28 xp pro |
