| reply to neonhomer I have a 102" whip on my Jeep for 11m, and when I go through the wood, it never fails that I catch the whip on something and usually break the mount, or at least twist it.
Luckily, my 2m, 1/4wave on the roof is protected by my driving lights.
And I want to put a mobile HF in my Jeep? LOL.... -- "F is for Fire that burns down the whole town... U is for Uranium...... Bombs... N is for NO SURVIVORS!!!!!" Sheldon Plankton

Then too so has GE the latest reincarnation is Harris Florida State SLERS system (just follow the bouncing ball of mergers and buyouts) This is proving to be a real money maker for the manufacturer one has to deal with Harris only (or what ever the name is this week) only 5K per Radio . No buying from Gregory or at ham fests. So far no scanner can receive and decode their signals. The base cost of a digital scanner is in the $500 range, too expensive to experiment with. since our local Sheriff signed up to use SLERS people have been trying to get a scanner All the major vendors say no way to receive and decode calls as the control channel is encrypted. Others say any 800 MG scanner will work then tell people they must be doing something wrong SORRY NO RETURNS you are stuck with an expensive radio not heavy enough to be a boat anchor. So I guess back to days of old, as used Harris equipment is available one needs to be able to program and install a mobile radio (receive only) -- Comcast HSI or AirCard either Sprint or ATT WINXP-Pro, LAN Firefox Thunderbird Gmail
