[Wireless] Need help with better reception

Hello, I have a Linksys E2000 router. It is in my basement, when I'm on the second story I get only two bars on my laptop. It is really annoying because it isn't very fast. Is there anyway that I could bring the router onto the main floor so it is closer to the second story? I don't want to move the main computer that it is connected to. I am going to move my desktop that has wireless capabilities to the basement. Could I connect my router to the modem and have it working without it being hooked up to a desktop?

Yes, you can connect the modem to the router without a computer being connected by Ethernet cable to the router.
Other choice is Linksys Wireless Range Extender »homestore.cisco.com/en-us/produc···wcat.htm or powerline extender »www.netgear.com/home/products/po···001.aspx
