USG 100 & Android L2TP VPN

Hi,

So I ended up returning my USG50 in favor of a USG100 that has L2TP support today (vs at some point in the future with a possible firmware update).

So I did try this with both CM7 (custom AOSP rom) & an Android 4.03 (Ice Cream Sandwich) port which has a much more updated L2TP client.

I keep getting Phase 1 completing on CM7, then it basically drops out waiting for DPD on the android. So it starts, then fails is the end result.

I then tried Ice cream sandwich which has a newer more mature L2TP client. This gets further & then literally crashes the router. This happened 3 times in a row. I get some of the log but the crashing doesnt help.

Then I tried with my wifes Iphone 4S & it works flawlessly, logs right into the VPN.

I also tried with both WinXP & Win7 & it works flawlessly.

I did contact tech support & they have no idea. They have no devices with Ice cream sandwich to test.

I hate to send this USG 100 back but for almost 500 bucks, I think I need the VPN to work (at this price point).

I have had OpenVPN working on my DDWRT router, but I really like this ZyXel (the USG 50 & 100) the site to site works really easily & the live tech support option is great.

Any ideas on what else I could do (aside from getting an Iphone) to make this work on Android?

Thanks,
Rich

Report it as a bug and say that you want to return the device unless they can commit to fixing that bug.

I got ICS on a device, but no USG But can you no turn off L2TP and only do IPSec on ICS, seem to remember seeing that as an option, IPSEC xauth PSK or something like that.

Can I leave L2TP turned on but just try to log in using regular IPSEC? I did try logging in using regular IPsec with PSK but it did not work. It hung at phase 1.

Tech support suggested I could try each & every security combo to get it working. I am not sure if there is some documentation in terms of what ICS uses specifically for Ipsec encryption.
