 | Universal sports? The guide just says "off air" as far out as I can search. Google turns up nothing except for the MSG fiasco.
Do we know what's happening for us time Warner folks?
I'd like to have this channel in HD but I doubt that's happening, however losing the channel altogether would suck.

 | Up until now, Universal Sports was a digital subchannel of your over the air NBC affiliate. When Comcast purchased NBC, they said they'd make Universal Sports a normal cable channel and pull it OTA. Time Warner has an agreement with your local NBC affiliate to carry Universal Sports, now theyll need one with Comcast. And Universal Sports is not yet available in HD, although I think Comcast announced that it will be going HD at some point this year. -- 2011 Time Warner Cable Forum @ DSLReports Poster Of The Year! TIA there is a slate on the Universal Sports channel here (366) saying that KXAS NBC is "No longer Broadcasting Universal Sports". |

 | reply to sandwidth NBC/Comcast has taken Universal Sports off the air as of January 1. Their main replacement is the cable channel "NBC Sports Network" which replaced Versus as of Jan 2 and it is avail in HD. |

 | Universal sports carries IRB rugby. I need it back. |

 | reply to sandwidth Universal Sports had a big campaign telling everyone to call their service provider, but strangely enough they did not tell you what to do if you are watching Universal Sports OTA (over the air). That is because they stopped multicasting. It is Universal Sports who choose to pull their programming and stop multicasting. The greedy execs at NBC Universal pulled their broadcasts off the air because they want more money. If you were receiving your Universal Sports signal (Over The Air) you can no longer do so. So essentially Universal Sports choose to reduce their own viewing audience drastically. "Smart" move, now just watch their ratings plummet.
TimeWarner or any other provider is under no obligation to pay them any money for content which until a few days ago was free.
Even Comcast is currently not carrying them and they are supposed to own part of NBC Universal. Crazy ...
This is a part of a long line of dumb decisions by Universal Sports. First they would let you watch events for free on their website. Then they made it so you can pay per year or monthly and now you have to pay an exuberant amount or money for each event and no monthly or yearly options anymore.
I will miss watching alpine skiing, but I hope Universal Sports comes to their senses after their ratings drop so low that no one would want to advertise on them anymore. |

 | reply to sandwidth Ok so now as best I can tell it looks like we actually DO get the NBC sports network just not so much the same programming as before. (I see a lot of "NBC sports talk" on the guide for this channel).
Here's hoping they show the same track, marathon, cycling, skiing and other misc. stuff that they used to.

??? It's a totally different channel.
"NBC Sports Network" used to be "Versus" which used to be "Outdoor LifeNetwork": »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBC_Sports_Network
"Universal Sports" spun out from being a NBC subchannel to it's own cable network. Everybody (OTA, TWC, Cox, Comcast, FIOS, Uverse, etc.) but DirecTV lost it, until they sign new contracts: »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Sports
-- If it's important, back it up... twice. Even 99.999% availability isn't enough sometimes. |

 | reply to sandwidth Let me get this straight. they pulled their OTA broadcast which costs them nada and put it on directTV and a couple of measly cable companies? I wonder what their viewership numbers dropped to and does the revenue from DirectTV make up for what they lost on their ad revenue? |
|
 | reply to sandwidth I dont know who is more to blame, but it doesn't surprise me that Comcast is involved.
Totally disappointing. I learned the game of rugby last year, got to watch skiing and swimming, and the Tour de France.
Yeah, I take advantage of OTA because I cannot afford cable/satellite, but even if I were wealthy, I'd have serious trouble paying these scumbags. |

Yeah its sad,VS WAS BETTER I THOUGHT! What? Versus is the same channel as NBC Sports Network, just renamed.
Universal Sports is a totally different channel and is the one that went off for most people. It was a SD subchannel to NBC. -- If it's important, back it up... twice. Even 99.999% availability isn't enough sometimes. |

Re: Universal sports? I'm glad it's been moved to cable.
One less subchannel leeching off of NBC feeds and lowering bitrates and PQ; and now that it's a cable network a HD feed can be launched.
Standard definition channels are useless and might as well not even exist as I refuse to watch them. |
