canada | [BC] QOS Settings Optik TV Is There any chance that Someone can Post Qos Rules for own router as comparable to rules setup in Actiontec V1000h for upstream QOS.
I want to priortize IPTV traffic from DDWRT router and have setup actiontec as bridged modem. I Can Priortize by MAC Address but not sure if that would leave me with slow internet connection.
Any Advise? |

You need to prioritize upstream traffic with a DSCP mask of CS5.

Yeah it does support igmp multicast..although it doesnt support snooping yet..but you can still block multicast traffic from flowing through unwanted ports by either unbridging those ports and putting them in different vlans ( use different vlan just for STBs and just allow multicast on those ports)
Another way you can do that is by using firewall builder and putting those rules in iptables.
My Question is ..is it worth enabling Upstream QOS by using MAC Address ?? As i believe most we do upstream on STBs are for changing channels and NTP. |

If you can't return packets to TELUS TV at a reasonable rate, the TV will break up. I suggest reading a book on TCP/IP networking if you have some spare time.

canada | I am Pretty much aware of OSI Model and dont have any doubts on that.. My question was if its enuff to prioritize traffic using mac address of STBs or making rules like actiontec has will be good enough. |

So Yeah I was able to run Optik using Vlan Setup and QOS. I setup Different vlan for my iptv boxes and different for other Lan Equipment and different for Wireless and blocked multicasting on wireless and other LAN Vlans. And Implemented CS5 / Premium markings on Priority traffic outbound and 0o0o0 yeahhh its working flawless. so happy..If anyone needs help with DDWRT and vlan setup..more than happy and willing help. |
