quite a few peices of open source software are in this firmware it seems
theres probably other changes that i cant see |

4 edits | So, how are those speed tests from long distances on that firmware seeing as how that was the issue?
Not bad, for Charter anyway. Only took 9-10 freaking months to get a new firmware for which every other ISP had the same issue and has since upgraded their firmware twice since they had the same issues with the older firmware.
Edit: Actually that firmware is 2 versions up from where it was, isn't it? -- The Firefox alternative. »www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/ |

 | Cork..yes...most other ISP's are running 1.0.5.1..this is highest flashed by isp's i have seen so far

 | Still very, very sad it took Charter so long to fix this. |

 | reply to zed261 I would love to know how exactly you got this firmware. I called charter and the guy didn't know anything about it. He did actually ask me how to spell "firmware" though...
Any help would be greatly appreciated because I've been waiting on this FOREVER |

Getting Customer Release Notes from Motorola for their devices is like pulling teeth. On occasion they get released publicly[1][2] with lots of insights on a technical level (above the spectrum of knowledge of probably 95% of end-users). I'm still trying to find out how I can request these from Motorola officially; the linked PDFs seem to imply there may be public distribution limits (e.g. NDA rules or similar) applied to them, but those limits are described in a separate document which I haven't found anywhere.
Also, Alsmith1 , "most other ISPs are running 1.0.5.1" is opinionated nonsense; please don't state generalised things like this without hard evidence. There is no "common firmware" that other ISPs are running, the numbers are all over the board. Those seen in the field presently that *I* know of are 1.0.2.4, 1.0.3.3, 1.0.5.1, and 1.0.6.1 (TekSavvy now offers this, as well as some areas of Charter it seems). Those of us on Comcast in the northern California Bay Area with SB6120 and SB6121 units are seeing 1.0.3.3.
And remember: the latest is not always the greatest. (I'm not implying 1.0.6.1 is bad news, I'm simply saying that getting excited over a new firmware upgrade without knowing what it fixes/addresses is generally pointless).

| its not opinionated....I have read in other ISP forums that people have gotten FW updates to 1.0.5.1 whether it be in certain areas and your not on it...in fact there is a post here from a charter member who took his modem to a friends on a different isp and got the firmware update.....so far i have read on Cox...Comcast and OOL that 1.0.5.1 has been released...like i said maybe certain troubled areas ..but its out there..
