After about 5 days I wrote them again and Dylan said he would put me on the so called wait list. It's been another week and nothing. I've dealt with Charter Abby a couple times before. She's a relative newbie with Charter and doesn't know what she's talking about half the time! said by jeffro:Anyone know how long the update itself lasts? All my stuff reset and now my send light is blinking but it won't go online.
Edit: seems I didn't get the new fw. Still on 1.0.2.4. Update only takes a matter of seconds, if that. I delt with Abby this weekend, she had my speed tier changed (on Saturday 1/14, after 5PM!) within 2 hours, and my firmware was pushed out first thing this morning, 1/16. Seems like she's competent to me. I've been lurking the Charter forum for the better part of a year and have been growing increasingly intolerant of your off color comments about Charter's support system (they've improved dramatically since I started with them 10 years ago- I even switched to Qwest for two years), and your personal attacks on support staff who are overall extremely helpful. Class it up. Go back to lurking then if you can't stand slightly opinionated comments as you show no class at all yourself. This IS a discussion forum, you know?
I've been with Charter for the better part of 13 years, minus 2 years trying out DSL when Charter first started threatening caps, and work with their system every day fixing computers and network issues in the Charter area.
Sure, their support has gotten some what better, but most people in the know will come to the direct forum, or here, just as you did, every day of the week, before they would bother calling into Charter.
2 hours to change a speed tier. That should've been instantaneous!!
Good thing we won't count the install techs as per your review of Charter, "Install tech was rather unfriendly"

 | reply to zed261 Sent the request for the firmware 24 hours ago, I would like to get this update due to my modem randomly rebooting. I have been waiting on this firmware for a long time. From what I have read this one is a winner. |

Thanks charter for even more speed. |

 | reply to nunya said by nunya:This is nice and all..., but why isn't this just being pushed out without having to ask for it? Most MSOs do a staged release in order to limit potential damage. There's always the chance that a firmware image will create a problem that was not immediately apparent in lab testing. If they pushed it to 100,000+ customers at the same time, there could be 100,000+ very unhappy people. Pushing it to 10 people then 100, then 1000 and so on allows them to closely monitor the modems and head off any potential issues before they affect a larger group of customers. |

 | reply to zed261 I just upgraded changed from the old Max plan to the new Plus plan and was told I needed to upgrade to a DOCSIS 3.0 model (currently have a Linksys CM100).
Was going to pull the trigger on the 6120 through Amazon until I came across this thread.
Should I be looking at purchasing a different modem or is this one fine to use? |

Holy smokes! I just looked, and the firmware on my modem is well over2 years old. I think they've probably had plenty of time to test the new firmware. Apparently there have been 12 firmware releases since the one my modem is currently running.
In fact, it appears the firmware that is on my modem may actually predate the modem itself. -- ...because I care. |

 | reply to zed261 I just picked up an open box sb6120 off Amazon and think I have you all beat for the oldest firmware.
(SB6120-1.0.0.5-SCM00-NOSH) - Firmware Build Time: Jul 30 2008 19:54:38
The charter tech told me its the "out of the box, firmware" .. Ouch.
Needless to say, I have my request in for the new firmware, supposed to be sent some time today. |
|
 | Me too, also here in Upton MA.
Since the update my 6120 has been showing my 4 downstream power levels as
0 dBmV 0 dBmV 0 dBmV 0 dBmV
I thought that 0 wasn't allowed, and was an indication that the modem cannot report power levels? Is that the case? Prior to the upgrade I think I was seeing +1 or +2 dBmV.
Another question -- The time shown on my 6120 is 1 hour fast. I'm in the Eastern time zone. Should the time always be set correctly to local time?

bshellyPremium join:2002-02-17 Hickory, NC | 0 dBmV is absolutely perfect! The functional range is generally between -15 and +15 dBmV. The closer to 0, the better. |
