Re: [DSL] Cellpipe random reboots / loss of sync (Check logs ple

Hi! I have the same problem with my CellPipe 7130.

Firmware Version> v1.0.4.4R3WH
Release Date> 2011/09/16 12:00

As i see we have to look for another modem. I even don't want to try another firmware for Cellpipe.

If you're a Bell customer, you might have luck getting them to switch you to the Sagemcom. As TSI customers, I have no idea what we're going to get as a resolution.

I have the same, problematic, firmware and the logs show the repeated block of entries that are present at reboot. My Cellpipe is connected to a UPS and it has not been power cycled in months.

Hmm, looks like I've got the same problem. Had a reboot last night at around 4:30am, then another one around 8ish this evening. Missed the lights at the 4:30am one, but the 8ish one definitely had all the lights go out (briefly), so wasn't just losing DSL connect.

Has there been any word on a resolution to this problem?

Latest word is that Bell knows there is an issue and will be sending out units with different firmware. I'm still waiting to hear on a timeframe. TSI-Martin has been handling this. If you have the defective firmware I would suggest speaking to him directly for the moment. Once I hear more I will be sure to let you all know.

It would be interesting to mark the returned modems with pencil, say a little 'x' by the firmware version, to see if they are cycling these modems through without updating the firmware.

Martin tells me one new modem is on the way. As soon as I get it and verify that the firmware is in fact different he'll get them to send the second one. Hopefully I will have good news tomorrow...

Same here; I will check to see what modem it is, firmware it ships with and report back.

Remote Cellpipe firmware updates

For updates of the Cellpipe 7130 with alternate firmware (non-Stinger), can't Bell just push out the updates from their end instead of making you send back the units?

For the Cellpipe 1.0.4.2 --> 1.0.4.3 Stinger updates, that was done remotely.

Interesting. From what I've seen / heard they don't do this for wholesale customers. But then again I didn't realize they did it for their own customers either.

Seems to be a function of »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TR-069 which is supported by most if not all VDSL2 modems. Makes sense.

That said I don't think they are using this for wholesale since they would need a different set of management instructions within their tools for each wholesaler. I wonder if Teksavvy could use this directly or if it needs to be done at a lower level than they have access to. Mind you I guess they don't have access to the firmware either...

It's the same, problematic, firmware I already have. Now what?

Looks like the exchange was placed before I got confirmation from Bell. I'm waiting to see what Phibian has to say... from there we'll move forward with a few customer that seem to be getting the issue.

Okay, I'll sit tight and wait for your direction.

No, I'm YesUp customer.
Guys, why do you think that problem is with firmware of CellPipe? Did previous versions ran good? If not, this is definitely hardware of CellPipe, and in that case upgrade would change nothing.

The 1.0.4.3 Stinger firmware with the Cellpipe works fine with a Teksavvy account. So, at least with certain hardware configurations, the Cellpipe is good. However, this firmware is for specific Bell hardware. It won't work with other Bell hardware, hence the requirement for different firmwares.

Didn't know that. You sure? Anyways, I might have access to a Cellpipe with the older 1.0.4.2 Stinger firmware soon. If so, I'll try it for a while with TSI account info to see if it gets updated automagically or if just continues to sit at 1.0.4.2.

I am a TSI customer who had this issue.

We know it is not the Cellpipe hardware as Bell swapped out my modem with a different firmware version on Jan 8th. I have not had a reboot since that date. As per the thread above Bell have found an issue and will be shipping out the modems with a different version of the firmware.

Also, from above, we have concluded that the issue is not related to interfacing with Bell's equipment as the modem will reboot randomly when not connected to the phone line or PC.

Also, my modem has not been automatically upgraded to the defective firmware since the swap out.

The only difference I see between the interfaces on this firmware version and the other are that internally the screens are Bell branded and when you connect the modem to configure it I get a Bell setup wizard on the browser.

Sigh.

I mean, it's not a *huge* issue, in that the internet works 95% of the time. But it can be pretty damn inconvenient to have it go out when you're using it. It's rather annoying we can't seem to get a resolution over this problem.

Yes, but I work from home and routinely have conference calls.

Since, I'm using a VOIP solution, the connection going down during the day does pose a problem. Believe me, I'm not pursuing this issue because of interrupted entertainment.

Sorry, should have made it clear I was speaking for me personally, not everyone.

But regardless of what you use your internet for, basic stability should be mandatory, having randomly rebooting modems is not kosher.
